Like virtually everyone in my generation, I grew up watching SpongeBob SquarePants, so it was a pretty nasty surprise to wake of to the news that Stephen Hillenburg, the man who created SpongeBob, had died. As soon as I got the news, I rushed to plug in my tablet and put together this piece, because he and his work are not only part of childhoods and silly memes, but also very much a part of animation history.
Farewell, Mr. Hillenburg.
