They were humanoid thousands of years ago, made a deal with the gods for immortaliy, got encased in a living metal skin, slowly had all organic components replaced with metal, so now they are machines with just a very faint recollection of what happened =3

basically it strips away atoms from the target =3. (thats not what Gauss ACTUALLY does but its what there guns do X3)
