Five of six entries for Riot's latest Comic LoLz contest! na.leagueoflegends.com/node/11…

This one supplanted several idea I had for my fifth comic. I was a getting a little worried because in the past contest I managed to throw in what I thought of as a 'pander' or 'sellout' joke as a kind of 'safe' submission that was sure to hit at least a few niches for sheer popular media self-referencing, and this time I couldn't think of anything. I finally did. Last time the joke was that 'Darius is a brony'. This time it's a simple cameo from the movie everyone seems to be talking about, Frozen. And since I was pandering, might as well go whole hog and throw a Teemo Dies joke in there too.

Artistically, this piece was stuffed to the gills with challenges. Lissandra is a surprisingly difficult design to draw, proving once again that sometimes it is the simple motifs that are the most difficult to render simply because the nature of their simplicity brings starker focus to what few details that ARE there, and thus you have to make them doubly good to compensate. I am unhappiest with the second panel, as it is the probably the most dialed-in of all my panels this contest-- the freeze effect is scribbled on, and the Frozen Tomb is just as sketchy and unrefined. I wish I had the time to make a different background for panel three as well instead of just using a custom brush again. Might have made Elsa's dress prettier too, but decided to save time by just doing block color. The top panel was meant to be a full-on Photoshoop watercolor painting but again because of time constraints had to satisfy myself with an art deco-ish splash that concentrates on contrasts.

At least it's the one my wife likes best and feels has the best chance for winning, if only because it's the one joke that made her as a non-LoL player chuckle a little. Think she's right? Vote for it here! woobox.com/o5pz8u/vote/for/196…
