Thanks again. Yeah its really just cleverly placed 2d masks. Filled in with color and texturing on top To get this particular style I sometimes paint with the mask. It brings out this iconic 2d look, and forces you to be loose in your painting Try it out

Yes, thats a god or spirit of water But, that dosnt mean that it has to be a friendly one. Yeah i know, these wash paintings are sooo beatiful I can spend hours looking at Sumi-e pictures online
