Drip drip..Playing with watercolor

I spent around 3 and a half hours on it and I really love how it turned out.
Done on a bristol board (not recommended though, the paper can get buckled if you use it). I'm sorry for the poor quality. I have no scanner, so this'll do!

I'd love to know (because I've been trying out water colors this year and find some things frustratingly hard to do), do you carefully avoid all the highlights the whole time, or add white in later?

I definitely avoid the highlights. Adding white is completely fine too, but I personally go around them, and later if it needs white added, I'll dab it in there.
