hahaha, look at his spinny horns which i totally failed at drawingI'm pretty sure he'd have psychic powers as a troll. He's most likely able to control that braid of his. Heheh.
And I ended up trying a different shading style for the hair this time. I kinda like it. The difference isn't that notable, though. Why am I mentioning this.
The scarf is rather bright and I have frankly no idea where he got it from. On a second thought, I should have made it darker. Haha, whooooops

In this case, just a mechanical pencil.
..Then I took a picture of it and colored it digitally, by making a new layer above it and setting it to Multiply.
It's way easier than buying markers or whatever, heh. (even though those would be pretty nice to have)

Anything like GIMP, SAI or Photoshop or anything else with layer support would work. GIMP is free. And you may look up how to switch layer modes.
Basically, while having the new layer selected, look for where it says Normal (should be somewhere near where you select layers), click that, and pick Multiply. Now you can draw over the thing while still having the lines show up perfectly.
(well, unless you're working with pure black. instead, go with dark grey. if you're going to make something whiter instead, use Overlay.)
So yeah. I hope that helps?
If you've got an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, etc), go get ArtStudio. It may not be free (well, the trial is), but it's not expensive either and it's totally worth the money.
That's what I generally use, so yeah. It is without doubt the best art/editing program on the app store I've ever come across, so I just figured I should mention that.

i came up with a name for my fanspecies there calld dreamits they fly and dont have wings and they live in the sky on the clouds and have tails they see in the dark they have fade skin color like there lag is black and it fades to white up ways the body they can be any color they have white nails and what ever color arms and lags they have bright colord sparkles on there arms lags and ears they have down long ears like a horse or a cow but there ears are down they have a something lookin tail thats all i've got will you help me with the rest?

What is their upbringing like? How are they born? What do their babies look like?
What rules do their symbols follow? (all S___B-playing Homestuck species need symbols/logos/signs of some sort.)
What does a normal Dreamit room look like (beds, furniture, etc.)? Does it depend on caste (if any)?
What is their pesterchum/trollian equivalent called?
What is their SBURB equivalent called? How many players?
What does their Quest Bed/Cocoon equivalent look like, and what is it called? What sort of wings do they get when god-tiering, if any?
What exactly do their tails look like? Do they vary a lot, is this what their caste system is based on? Tail shape?
How violent/peaceful are they?
What is their government like (if any)? Do they have royals?
How much do they care about fashion? (like, more than trolls or less than trolls?)
How many colors is each Dreamit supposed to have (for extra canon-ness, go with just one color, though more may be acceptable i guess?? um), and where do these colors go on their body?
What defines the worst kind of mutant? How much do they care, if at all? ((i bet it's a lack of wings and that it's considered terrible))

You don't need to answer them here, you just need to think about them, although you may write down your answers to these somewhere if it helps. Maybe Word, or a journal, or something, somewhere that's easy for you to find.
For even more things/questions about them, try this method: when doing things or reading/hearing about things, think, "how would dreamits do this?"
That's really what it all boils down to.

here is some answers for those i know you said i dont have to but i want to
what is their society like: its some buildings in the clouds some big some small like troll houses
Do they have a caste system, and if so, what is it based on: yes its like the poor walk the streets or in little houses the royal ones live in big houses on the really high clouds like there are the clouds we see there are clouds above that and there are clouds above those the mid class ones live by the low class or on the mid clouds its based on nothing i made it up (sorry i dont really know what a caste system is )
Do they have families? How does their familial system work?: yes they have families they dont tell whose the dad and leave the babies with the moms and the moms sometimes (most times) when the babies are grown up they let them go on there own
they live in families of 2 or 3 there like the trolls but the girls have girls parts and the boys have boy parts the boys have tentacles/bone b. like the trolls
