Be careful, when I touched my hamsters babies the mother became confused (babies smelled different) and she killed them because she didn't recognize their sent...

I've never had that problem with my mice or rats. Mice and rats usually only 'kill' their babies when the babies are sick, or the mother knows the baby will not make it.
Usually, they're pretty amazing about me handling their babies. I always try to daily after the first couple of days, since it helps very much with socializing them and getting them use to my scent as well.

this is so true, kittens always have a special bond with their mommy's as they grow up. It's so beautiful to see relationships blossom with age
