I designed this pattern especially for this exchange. It needed to be a bit bigger than the usual 18ct Aida I use but I didn't have any white fabric in 14ct Aida or 28ct evenweave so I dug around and found some 12ct Aida instead. The fabric is far from even as you can tell... the pattern is completely square but the ornament is not.Stitch size: 49 stitches square.
Size: 3 3/4"x 4"
Fabric: 12ct Aida
Colours: DMC 3325 and Kreinik 001L + some blue craft floss for the cord.
Beads: 244 beads total, 132 for the edge. TOHO TR-11-918 Ceylon English Bluebell (82 beads) and TR-11-2021 Silver-lined Rainbow Crystal (162 beads)

The central lines are all just huge stitches - quite easy to do really and the rest is just a mater of getting the movement and pattern in your head and it all sort of falls into place - Mattsma always calls it the rhythm of the pattern, a bit like music

It comes with time and I personally don't get it with every pattern - some are just too much like modern jazz for me - no rhyme or rhythm that I can find. It's always best for me when I get to do a waltz while stitching

Love the music metaphor, because it does make a lot of sense. I guess some patterns 'speak' more to a person that others do. Have to think about this some more, thanks for the thoughts

With the double layer of span stitches it's a lot more difficult to create the pattern than expected, I'd hoped to have it up by now but I'm getting closer to getting it finished
