Description So... honesty time I guess? This is about the limit of what I can draw/doodle without references on a good day.
You don't want to see things I draw on a shitty day.

1. creature
2. sadly accurate cartoonish portrayal of yours truly
3. too lazy to erase/empty space filler
4. oc
5. AC1 sheanigans
6. dragon, you've seen that one already
7. race/oc (let us take time to admire how can I draw something that asymmetrical and NEVER notice)
8. oc
9. I don't even know but I feel oddly like I should apologize

will scrap in a few days, in the meanwhile... to keep this account alive...

I actually think those are quite neat, especially for unreferenced doodles. Remind me to never post what I draw without references… *cough*
I like the strange alien race the abstract motive at the very end, 'tis pretty.

Well, okay. Remind me to burn the sizeable pile of things that didn't make it here... along with some stuff I actuall referenced? (I obviously have too little 'good' days)

abstract motive is a play on that Assassin's Creed symbol which kinda looks like this... a little... well, no, not really. No references remember.
Hey, would you maybe know about any book... tutorial... anything about designing in general? Clothes, objects, logos/symbols? Are there any rules of thumb for when things are too busy or is it all just common sense?

Ah no, you must not burn anything. Make piles of it and date it and laugh at it years later when you have made more awesome. Or even better, cut everything out, stick it in a sketchbook and leaf through it for inspiration. Doodles might be unrefined and sometimes just plain ugly but they usually contain some nice ideas that make for neat art if you sit down and decide to make something with it.
And be warned, I had an /awesome/ day today, so my good mood might be either infectuous or incredibly annoying. Seriously, I have no idea why, but today was awesome. Here, have a bear hug!

Aaand why do you ask this when all my good books are at home, damn it xD But okay, yes, I do, and I have seen some stuff online on designing and shit too, I'll get that for you when I come back home. I'm going out in a little to go climbing, so no time right now, but I should have a pile of stuff… somewhere… Yes.
Tho one thing I remember off the bat about things being too busy: I read this somewhere and it sounds like a good idea: take your character, draw him, referencing him, with all the little details and shits you want on him. Then put it aside, wait for an hour, and redraw him without any reference, from memory. Everything you forgot is not that important and you can think about it again
Aaaaand I'll be back in three hours and dig some more nice things out for you. Yay!

Oh man, I'm days from laughing at the supposedly better stuff above, I really think I can dispose of the really bad ones if there is nothing useful there XD
Of course I'll keep even bad doodles if they are tries at some species/oc design or I want to have another go at the pose or dunno, something... speaking of which I should probably sit and give 'strange aliens' another try soon, heh, looks like it's about their turn.
Today was pretty good aside from one shopping fiasco (or that I had to go in the first place...) I think I can endure a bear hug x) No, seriously, you had a weirdly awesome day?? What are we even talking about, let's celebrate!

Aww, sorry xD I don't want to cause you trouble or anything asdfg if there is anything you can throw at me without digging too much it would be seriously awesome though!
That advice was making rounds on tumblr not that long ago I think... saw it and thought it made a lot of sense as well, got to try it some time... I think most ocs I have so far are pretty simple!

MAN THE WEATHER IS SWEET OVER HERE.
Seriously.
Take some of my good mood.
It's going to explode out of my heart and spill all over my room. I mean, it's due for a wash anyway, but I don't wanna mop up happyness. That sounds wrong somehow.

Anyway, where was I…
Nooo don't dispose of drawings… Well, okay. You can dispose of really, really bad and doodly doodles, but generally keeping stuff is good. I mean, I have art I only take out when I know there is nobody within a ten km radius around me, but it's still very amusing. Stuff from… 2007? Oh god.
And yeah, draw the aliens again! They're neat!
Ah, speaking of aliens, go check out InsanityEngine ( [link] ), you might enjoy her art Yours remind me a little of some of her stuff, actually, it's neat. What color scheme did you have in mind for them, btw?

And yeah, I have no idea, yesterday was awesome, today is promising again, what is wrong with the world!? But let us not question this, let us celebrate this small victory! *tackles you into a crushing hug*
Speaking of which, I'm getting you some links and then going to work on commissions outside in the /sun/ woo hadn't seen this shiny thing in a while.

Okay, so. CHARACTER DESIGN.
[link] 'cause it has good ideas in it. Note that this blog overall is really cool. It's held by a friend of mine and just… /organised/ yes, blessing.
[link] [link] Not exactly what you want, I guess, but there are some cool ideas in it!
[link] not character, but if, like me, you have a hard time with colors, this is awesome.
[link] checklist/description of characters. If you can fill this out, you have your char fleshed out to the death. I have one character I managed to fill that for xD
[link] Mary Sue test. The more you know…
[link] That one is really informative. It starts slow and it's long, but hang in there, it's worth it.

Aaaand that will have to do for now. I vaguely remember some other stuff, I'll chuck it your way if I stumble over it again.

I KNOW right?? I need to ditch that heavy coat, take jacket out and go for a walk it's so nice outside~ and woah, I wake up 6:45 and there is LIGHT outside these days.
I'll take a bucket please.

My folder with past art should have warning labels pasted all over it, I swear, 'May cause in rash, loss of sight, insanity...' But you know what is sad? I have a sketch page with hands dated summer 2007 that ended up... still fairly good by today's standard. I have no clue what that was about (kinda wish I'd bottled some air that afternoon) but then it probably means I should practice hands xD

Not sure about the color scheme, I kind of see them with light pearly base (so greys, whites but maybe dull pinks greens etc as well) and subtle markings in brighter colors in some individuals because I can't help but think of cephalopods and water here... but yeah, I think this species might have several variants and this is the posh one.
Hmm, interesting, I remember seeing this artist once before I think, I might need another look, thanks

*feels crushed*
Today was pretty cool too, well, the morning lecture nearly bored me to death but 'tis nothing, I doodled some more and they were fairly nice doodles and resolved to find a book on the subject next time I'm in the library.

Ahh, thanks so much for all the links, some serious lecture time! I especially like the last one. I'm familiar with the Mary Sue test already, thankfully characters I have these days pass it with no problems at all...it wasn't always that easy years back Also, my good old friend monster checklist of doom! Pretty sure I can fill it out for several characters but I got lazy two thirds into it...the file is still on my desktop though, waiting, I'm not giving up on it so easily! Congrats on getting it done man xD (I'm guessing...Alex was the one?)

Yeah man, ditch that coat, I have done so long ago! 'Tis not sunny anymore but still warm and cozy and mmh, /spring/. I mean. I like winter. I really do. But that warm period just after winter and right before stuff starts to bloom and my allergy kicks in is pretty damn neat, too.
Also.
*vomits you a bucket of happy rainbow*

Ah, ironically, I have some doodles of hands that look pretty rad littered around, too. But as soon as I try to attach some hands to someone… Yeah.
Hands, how to!?
But yeah, my old art folders are pretty much the same xD And I am not letting anyone beside me look at them. Ever.

Oh hey, that sounds like a pretty concept. Definitely suiting. You're going to give yourself hell trying to draw that kind of look, tho. Especially if you want to give them cephalopod-like skin.

Psh, lectures are almost always boring.
Doodling in lectures, however… 'Tis very good B)

The checklist is the death of any writer, I swear. It's very useful though, I like using it to whip up character sheets quick and easy. Once you've filled it out once, you just have to copy-paste whatever relevant part xD
And yes, I filled it out for Alex/Caïn. I spoil this asshole way too much.

Funny, that. I don't have anything in particular agains other seasons but I think early spring/late autumn are my favourites... you know, when it's fairly warm and sunny but not raining all the time yet
Ew, allergies? You poor thing.
...thank you, I suppose. I did ask.

Hmm, that sounds like a challenge x) I haven't considered technical difficulty yet (do I ever) but I'm not going to change my mind just because of that, heh. You could say I have a bit of practice with dragon scales and such already...? I looked into drawing iridescence a lot.

This term lectures are either okay or totally pointless, with nothing in between, not sure if that's good. Ehh.

I have to revisit it a bit, I guess I might have changed my mind about a few things. Anyway, yeah, it's extensive but also a pain, some of the questions are weird, other ones... idk, they just make me laugh, I mean... meaning of name? Chinese zodiac sign? Really?
(Although I consider 'what animal would he/she be' some kind of strange exercise in potential His Dark Materials AUs)
Ah, everyone needs at least one like that.

Late autumn is beautiful, I love it. Too bad autumn is like… two weeks long in Germany xD But yeah, it's really nice.
I don't have too strong allergies, so it's not too bad, but it irritates me enough to make me dislike that time of year.
You're welcome.

You do have a lot of practise with scales, I never understood how you could have the patience for them. But they look neat. So maybe iridescent won't be too difficult? Either way YAY CHALLENGE.

I have got to say, some things are sorta pointless. I especially do not bother with zodiac and years of birth or w/e, since my characters don't exactly age along. But overall it's really nifty.

Mmm, you must love the weather then. Pretty much April already and...snow.

Drawing them (the lineart) is more annoying than coloring I think... Or rather: it's not really a problem/time thing for me to just draw them whatever but trying to make them look like'd make sense on something living when they really don't...

What do you mean 'not age along'? Weren't they born at some time regardless what happens after?
