When DestrierDesigns first commissioned me, I was ridiculously nervous. I have looked up to them as an artist for so long that the thought of doing art for them was, to put a subtle point on it, terrifying. But I knew that I wanted to challenge myself: I wanted to do things I'd either been inexperienced with, hadn't done before, or been too spooked to try out on a commission and boy oh boy -- I AM SO GLAD I DID! This piece consumed me for 3 days straight. When I wasn't working on it, I was thinking about what to do with it, how to hand-paint a particular part, what tutorial might best serve me for another part, and so on. I am so unbelievably happy with the result. This is one of my favorite pieces I've done to date, and this character -- while a total challenge and unlike anything I've ever done before -- really inspired me and motivated me throughout all of it. Thank you DestrierDesigns for commissioning me!

i'm late but i'd like to say this is easily like... one of yer best pieces. because of everything. all the things. there's been a massive improvement in yer art the past few months and this is like a culmination of it. nothing looks out of place and it looks like the character is actually there-- the water looks natural, everything blends perfectly and you used the stock amazingly. the coloring is very nice and the lighting also looks incredibly natural. it's bright and vibrant and the contrast between the colors is balanced and pleasing.
this is just a stunning piece of artwork. the amount of time and work that went into this is obvious and paid off. just. god damn maggie!! incredible, incredible work. it's just so damn beautiful, i can't even stand it. and you improve with every picture you do. i can't even imagine what other amazing pieces are coming down the pipeline but i sure can't wait to see. <3

I really love your style of work, especially the way you composite everything together so smoothly. The vibrancy of the colors & the sharpness is amazing too, I still struggle with getting sharpness when there's a big color change.

This is phenomenal. Can I ask what filters/processes you use for the bg to get that.. I don't even know how to describe it. It's like the photo is less realistic somehow. Is it the Topaz Clean filter or..?

Thank you! I do use topaz, but I completely reduce the accent portion and only use the smart-sharpen.

Hmm I had the 30 day trial for it and did greatly enjoy it, but didn't want to buy it once it ran out so I went back to using regular smart sharpen. Seeing this background definitely makes me wonder about getting it for real sometime!
