Description *MaryBunnie was asking what I use to take photos of my dolls and well... Here it is! Very humble but it's lasted me well.

Mum bought me the two desk lamps recently, the first time I used them was on Ozzyfrage! It's a lot easier taking photos because the light source is the same from both sides which means the colours are more accurate. They're 850 lumens cool white bulbs, so not quite what I wanted (I wanted 1000 lumens daylight bulbs) but oh well, they do the job well.

The actual set up is a cardboard box with sides cut out, there's tracing paper to diffuse the light and I change the paper for the backdrop each time I take a photo just to mix it up a bit.

There are a LOT of tutorials on how to make your own desktop photography studio but this is the best one I found and followed: [link]

I LOVE BOXES TOO, MAN.
When I was little, I would cry when my parents would try throwing them away

no one around here puts them on the street though :C
we have special garbage bins for them that everyone flattens them in

IT'S LAME

always the bane of a parents existance, when the child gets more excited about the box than the gift... lmao, I always loved the box more

I know that Tesco do that here but all the crappy gift shops don't, woohoo! I am a hoarder though, my family do get annoyed when I bring back junk.

!! Hey I have got to try this D: It might solve the problem where my camera hates...everything! Like colors and details! I've seen similar setups people use to photograph their reptiles, but duh, works on other ventures into the third dimension, right?

Yeeeeey

Cool how you switch up the papers, what a simple way to bring in so much different stuff

Of courrrrse, most of the problem always lies in the white balance (for me anyway). Before I had this sexy set up I had the same box but with a bog standard normal lamp and a flourescent light, so the colours were always really bizarre and details never showed up right. The white light also makes it easier for the camera to snap faster (I think)

lmao, my tutor said the same, she said the coloured backgrounds made my work a lot more unique... Kind of like.. "Wat... My work doesn't make me unique?" But I know what you're saying |3

hahaha always sweating the small stuff when a quick change...hm! Iiiiiiii think that the multi colored background brings variation to the thumbs, and maybe it contributes to a viewer 'getting hooked'? And then launches into the full view to eat up all those details <3

When I was making Luca, I learned that my camera apparently had bad blood with both black and red. Which was 99% of the yarn I used :T ONE DAY they will get along, just gotta get em a room [like this]
