Christians and Muslims.
Golden Cross of Jerusalem - symbol of medieval Kingdom of Jerusalem and Christianity. The location of the cross on the left side, i.e. on the western side of the flag, indicates Europe as the center of Christian civilization.
Green Star and Crescent - symbol of Islam and Muslims, also treated as a symbol of the Arabs. The location of this symbol on the right side, i.e. on the eastern side of the flag, points towards the cradle of Islam - towards Arabia, where Mecca - the most sacred place of Islam - is located.
