You stared down at your blank notebook, trying to drown out the loud chatter in the classroom. Though the more you tried the louder it seemed to get. Maths was never a very good subject for you, in fact if you could you would have switched all your classes for gym. Alas you were stuck in the dimly lit classroom with beige walls, forced to sit with people who you didn’t even like. You lifted your gaze up to the board, which by now was full of a variety of complex questions and formula. The teacher Mrs. Roberts turned around after filling the final blank portion of the board. She sighed and paused, waiting for everyone to become silent, her beady eyes scanning the room. Although you knew you ought to listen to her lesson you did not. Your mind was occupied by far more interesting things, track for instance.

Honestly it was no secret just how much you loved to run. You were pretty good at it too. You were able to beat most people you ran against, except for one girl who you swore cheated in some way. Your other love always seemed to come as a surprise, what was wrong with a girl enjoying martial arts? It had been a key factor in your life ever since you were five. You would accompany your father to lessons and surprise everyone with your ability to learn. A smile crept up onto your face as you mindlessly took down the equations. By the time you’d reached the age of thirteen you had acquired your black belt. According to the Sensei you were one of the youngest in history. “----“
You were pulled from your daze by the familiar croaky voice of Mrs. Roberts. “Y-Yes Miss?”
The teacher rolled her eyes. “Are you deaf child? You should know by now that I don’t like to repeat myself.” She sighed turning back to the board. “You are wanted at the office, you better hurry it sounds fairly urgent.”

Your pace was quicker than usual as you walked the narrow mostly abandoned halls. The office was on the other side of the school which meant, oh joy, more time to fret. You had payed extra attention to stay out of trouble this week, even going as far as to handing in your English assignment on time.

“AHHH Miss ------.” You entered the principals office shyly, still unsure why you were there. Resting your hands on your lap, you took a seat on one of the cracked linoleum chairs.
“Sir? I’m guessing I’m here for a reason…” You tried to sound as if you couldn’t give a shit, but your voice decided to betray you. Lets face it, no one, no matter how badass they are likes to be called up to the principal’s office for seemingly no reason.

No matter how much you asked him the principal would say nothing about the reason you were there, except that someone wanted to meet you. So you’d given up, and had now turned all attention the series of ‘motivational’ posters up around the room. You couldn’t help but snicker at an old faded propaganda poster depicting Captain America. However before you could ask about it the door behind you opened with a squeak of the hinges. A large man wearing a long black coat and an eyepatch entered. There was no doubt about it this man meant business.

You squirmed in your seat as the massive man approached wordlessly, his footsteps heavy. Even the usually calm principal seemed to sink down in his chair like a misbehaving child. The stranger finaly came to a standstill a few inches from where you were seated. His single eye boring into the very reaches of your soul. After a few long awkward seconds the man held out his hand to you, breaking the painful silence. “---- ---- I am Director Nick Fury.”
Weakly you took his hand with a raised eyebrow. “Director?” You bit your lip as your hand returned to your lap. “H-have I done something wrong?”
Fury shook his head. “No not at all. I am simply here to offer you an opportunity.”
You let out a sigh of relief. So you were being offered a scholarship? Though you doubted you wanted to attend a college that sent large intimidating men to tell you the news. “Which college?”
The principal spoke for the first time since Fury had entered. “Oh no! Director Fury does not work for a college he-“
“I’m the director of The Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement Logistics Division.”
“Hang on, what?” You laughed nervously. “Da hell does that even mean?’
Fury rolled his eye. “We also go by S.H.I.E.L.D, we are in charge of eliminating any threats that present themselves to earth.”
You scoffed, collecting your satchel and standing up. “Sure you are… and I’m secretly an Avenger.”
Fury gritted his teeth. “Sit back down Miss ------ I am not yet finished.”

Fury later went on to explain that your martial arts skills and heightened agility were just what S.H.I.E.L.D was looking for. Oh and also, according to Fury the Avengers were a special division of S.H.I.E.L.D oops. You smirked as you chucked a (f/c) tee into your already over filling suitcase. You still weren’t sure why you agreed to going through ‘strict’ training to become a S.H.I.E.L.D agent. Hey at least there was no more Maths.
