Description The Ditee-ath Aero-Rabbit. Pictured: a Vicustian Eirulepon, the most common species.

by Yuko--San and MintyTomato ; group members are able to create animals and plants to add to the lore

- What is the name of the animal? Eirulepon.
- What kind of animal is it? Sky-animal with characteristics of rabbits, monkeys, cats, and bats. They are closely related to lepons but not technically a species of lepon themselves. (like butterflies being very close to moths, but not quite moths)
- Does it have fur/feathers/scales? Lovely soft fur, it feels nice to pet. The wings are thin but strong membranes.
- How big is the animal? (Max height, length and weight.) Max height/length (standing up straight, bipedal): approximately 7.9 inches / 30 cm. Max weight: approximately 0.5 pounds/0.23 kilograms. (that's a really big one though)
- Is the animal wild, domestic or used in agriculture? Wild. Some are kept in zoos, and a few flight-capable Gems have them as exotic pets, but they are VERY hard to care for.
- Is it a predator, or prey? Both.
- Diet? Herbivorous and insectivorous. They primarily eat glasswings and other bugs, making them good pest control like Impnocts are. However, they can't resist fruit or nectar. They have a high tolerance for toxins, but unlike Gemmismae they do not rely on them. They have sharp little fangs like bats do.
- Is the animal flourishing, or near extinction? Flourishing.
- Is the animal suitable for consumption? Yeah... but... who would want to? They're so cute... plus they taste terrible, even a leox will go "yuk" at the idea.
- What region(s) of Ditee-ath can it be found? Anywhere with both bugs and edible vegetation - basically the temperate and tropical areas. They cannot be found in the polar regions, it's too cold for them; the equator, meanwhile, is too hot. There's a temperature map at the bottom of the Ditee-ath information page , basically they live in the green yellow and orange bits, and are absent from red blue and white.
- Other info?
 - They have good hearing, but not nearly as good as a bat's; since they are unable to use echolocation, they are strictly diurnal.
 - Their intelligence is comparable to that of the Paridae bird family of Earth. (chickadees etc.) Basically, in spite of having tiny brains, they are actually pretty darn smart.
 - In order to fly more efficiently, they have lost the mineral-reliance of their closest relatives, the true lepons. The head gemstones have been replaced with horns made of keratin.
  - They are fast and agile, but not endurance flyers; after an hour or so of flight they need a quick break. As this means they cannot cross oceans independently, each continent (aside from Septentia and Merintia where they are absent) has its own species. Multiple subspecies of each species exist, although the differences between subspecies are subtle, and they often hybridize at the boundaries.
      - Adamatian Eirulepons have the most endurance, flying continuously for two or three hours instead of just the one. Their wingspans are about 4/3 the width of the other species. They are the most difficult to care for, as they need a lot of room and a lot of exercise.
The Eirulepons on Lipi are either a subspecies of the Adamatian ones, or possibly a separate species; debate among the zoologists and taxonomists is ongoing. Their wing membranes are completely opaque, and considerably stronger and thicker, with more blood supply. They have longer ears with little fur. These allow them to regulate their temperature better in hotter areas. As these are apparently the only changes, it's still not clear if they're a separate species.
      - Ametian Eirulepons are the rarest of the four (five?) species, but still fairly common. They typically have small areas of very detailed markings on their faces, as well as iridescent patches of fur and iridescent horns. Some have trailing floof tufts. These visual details are used in courtship displays when finding a mate. They are physically smaller than the other species, rarely exceeding five inches in height. Many Gems consider them to be the prettiest species of eirulepon, though of course beauty is subjective.
      - Opatian Eirulepons are fluffier. In fact, they are very floof. Think "long-haired cat that can fly". However, they are fiercely independent and by far the most difficult to tame, although if you do manage it, they are not as high-maintenance as other eirulepons, as they tend to spend a lot of time just sleeping and grooming. They have shorter ears, legs, and tails.
      - Vicustian Eirulepons are the most numerous, as they love the forests and they flourish there. Rarely, they may have green hues in their fur. They eat more fruit and fewer insects, and therefore they are the easiest to feed if you do successfully tame one.
  - They move around by flying and kangaroo-jumping. They're capable of walking slowly, but it's a rare sight.
  - They can fly at more than 90 mph / 145 kph. It's really impressive.
  - They can't kick as hard as a conneber-lepon, but you still shouldn't underestimate them, it takes serious strength for them to take off.
  - They can't take off quadrupedally like a pterodactyl, since they have such long legs.
  - They live about 40 years in captivity, so having one as a pet is a long-term commitment! They are also fast-flying, and their main food sources are difficult to provide in captivity. Having a pet eirulepon is similar to falconry, except they won't hunt for you and they are a bit more interested in hugs.
  - Their fur patterns are variable, but their fur colour is always colours found in the sky in daytime.
  - In places where they coexist with Impnocts, they may share a cave - the imps have the good sleeping spots in the day, the buns at night. In spite of eating the same insects, they don't really consider one another "competition".
