Description
This is my fourth My Little Pony animation commission. This was requested by SayaArt. Short Hilt is an Original Character created by SayaArt.IMHO, this is definitely the my best work so far. SayaArt gave me a challenge so I went " Challenge Accepted" and after two long months, battling with delays from my personal life I finally finished it! I wanted to add a lot of dynamic to her character by making her armor "bounce" whenever she did a little movement, and the first scene was a rotoscope of Twilight Sparkle's walk cycle in Lesson Zero. Her sword throw and grab is one of the most complicated and dynamic animations I've ever done so far and it turned out a lot better than expected.
Probably my favorite part of this commission was doing the backgrounds. I actually found myself enjoying doing the backgrounds for this commission and I think it's a huge step forward for me because doing backgrounds was never my strong suit.
If anything looks slow, it's because there's a lot of layers.

My pony is female. And I don't really appreciate being called a violent psycho. She embodies my love of adventure and role play video games. Skyrim, for example.

Well I'm sorry, but from this video, that is what I see. She came waltzing in and attacked a napping dragon who had done nothing wrong.

And who knows? Maybe they become friends at the end of the battle? But for the sake of money and stress on the animator, I decided to have it end like that and that's how it'll stay.

I know it seems harsh, but since my OC is a dragon (a rather kind one I should add) I tend to frown on the stereotype that dragons are inherently evil or violent.

Lolz, probably not, when any pony encounters a dragon it's usually a matter of life and death, and I don't think that dragon is going to willing let her trot away after skipping into his territory.
And Hilty is a "she".

Merrily canter through the forest, enjoy the beauties of nature. Come across the hoarding cave of a grumpy dragon. Steal one of his swords and brutally murder him with it... you know, you could have just apologized and gone your way :/

Ending is open ended, she either slays the dragon in a merciless bloodbath or the dragon has a nice European meal.

If I was a dragon, I'd leave a bunch of blunt swords sticking into my treasure just for cases like this.

Haha, that was my inspiration for her. I love RPGs - especially Skyrim, so I made Short Hilt into an adventuring pony. :'3 Glad someone made the connection!

I would recommend working on that walk cycle. It seems a little unnatural. Grant Beaudette has several videos on YouTube that you may find to be useful aids when learning how to use MLP puppets in Flash.

One reason it might look a little unnatural is because I tried to put a little spring in her trot, after all, she is adventuring! But I do see your point.

Hm... when viewed from the 3/4 and side angle, the walk animation seems to be a bit choppy, in that the loop animation seems to be missing a few frames.

The 3/4 view is actually identical (except for a few extra head movements) to the side view animation, no frames were removed, but I think when I distorted the image from side to 3/4 it did change the flow of the animation.
