Well, Dan WAS modeled after Robert and Ryo, more or less Robert's head on top of Ryo's body with the attire dyed pink. Even a lot of his style is very similar to theirs, his single-handed fireball, multiple-hit flying kick and barrage of blows super all staples of the Kyokugen characters. Even his taunting is a reference to how energy needed for specials was recovered in the first Art of Fighting game.

Im sure they'd come to a truce but then in the last minute Dan will somehow trick Robert or something making him the winner, in some weird/dumb way.
