"Let's keep moving, it's too wide to cross here." Renalti sighed, her voice annoyed that she had to repeat the same over and over again. The exhaustion from the constant travel was slowly starting to appear in her eyes and her paws were getting sore after climbing the cliffs all day. But her pride didn’t let her complain about it. After all, it was her idea to explore the mountains in the far northeast of Valgard's current camp. At first, she wanted to go alone but thought it would be safer to have someone by her side. Bies was happy when she'd asked him to accompany her, thinking about some exciting adventures that awaited them. But it didn't go exactly as planned.
They both weren't aware that after reaching their destination, there won’t be anything interesting there. Rocks, cliffs and river that broad they couldn't cross it. The best idea was to travel along it and hope to find something worth their attention. But after another tiring day of walking, they didn't find any good place that would let them swim across to the other side. The only thing they could do was to keep going. The she-wolf noticed the river bank was quite steep, after a narrow line of rocks, there was a sudden terrain drop and she couldn't see the bottom from there. What's more, there were plenty of plants growing between the stones - Renalti shook her head nervously when the thought of getting her paws tangled up underwater shot through her mind.
Suddenly, the pale female realized Bies wasn’t there anymore. With a sigh of relief, she found him a few steps ahead, crouching on the rocks with his paw dipped in water. She wasn't sure what exactly he was doing but decided to do the same and take some sips before setting out again, there was still a long way ahead of them. All of a sudden, her attention was caught by a sharp movement, she looked more closely and saw a pair of big blue eyes watching her from beneath the water. Her heart pounding quickly, she abruptly sprang back on all her four paws. What was that?! She slowly approached the bank again, but the creature was gone. Where did it go? "Bies! Get away from the bank! There’s-" She yelled to him, but her voice was drowned out by a massive splash. The enormous creature sprang out from the water, it was bigger than the two of them put together and Renalti noticed it had some old nasty scars. The she-wolf caught her packmate by his tail and pulled back. Fortunately, the river monster couldn't reach Bies’ body. It rested on the rocks for a few more seconds, looking at them as if it was angry after a failed hunt, before slowly drawing back to the river depths. After a moment of silence and shock, Bies finally spoke. "That was amazing! They won't believe us when we tell them we saw a real river monster! We should definitely come back here and try to catch it." Suddenly a playful smirk appeared on Bies' face and Renalti exactly knew what that meant. Please no. "I am o-fish-ally taking that fish down, ya know". The she-wolf looked at her companion but said nothing at his pun. She was too terrified to say a single word. We could have been made a fish meal…
