Description BARU is the leading NML file of the blue Standard team, and his avatar takes the form of a dog. His code has been notable for being derived from most of the earliest NML versions when the file type was being developed.

BARU is the "heavy" of the Standard team, so he has a lot of strength to work with. He takes advantage of this strength by fighting in close range. He also uses a club-like weapon (shaped almost like a bone) to assist in adding range; it also creates a jolt that temporarily stuns malware code.

The personality of BARU is much like your typical dog as well: loyal, caring, and protective. He has the system's safety as his top priority, with his teammates at a very close second. When he sees any file that poses a potential threat, he regards them as such and does not feel at peace until it is dealt with.

BARU has had some unusual reactions with NIKO when she was introduced to the team, primarily causing an attraction to her. This occurrence has since been called "NML Magnetism". It is currently unknown whether NML Magnetism results in a benefit or handicap regarding the performance of the NML's, or that of their respective programs.

BARU's design changed drastically since his origins. Initially his appearance was more along the lines of Sketch Tucker, though with no long hair and angular bangs. In the redesigning of the characters he has been given a more beagle-like appearance, which was a first for me at the time. He is to be the focus of "The Sinister 7," a pseudo-response to a sadistic internet meme.

Indeed. Not so many get the connection without an explanation. X3

*tilts his head* ...the other side of that bone has a freaking spike on it! Wow! I would sincerely hate to be on the receiving end of that sucker...

The "spike" is more often used as the handle. But I'm sure it could be pretty painful! And I'm certain it has utility uses as well, like in case he is falling it can be lodged into the wall to stop him.

Ah, BARU means well. He's just a bit too narrow-minded.

Well, he has more than one reason to dislike him, obviously. :3

He's just jealous 'cause TAKA's black outfit is so much cooler than his blue one. X3

That's another good drawing! I wish I could come up with clever comments like NS-Games always does...

Heh. Thanks for the appreciation, clever comment or not. :3

BARU certainly looks better than his first iteration long ago. It makes him look more...well, "user-friendly."

From his description I guess you could say he's like the computer's watch dog huh?

NML Magnetism sounds like something that could be caused by copying software. In which NIKO could be a BARU clone.

That wouldn't be too far off. :3

As for the other part of the comment, I don't think that's what NML Magnetism is about. I mean, for there to be so many NML files out there they had to stem from a prototype file of some kind. So wouldn't that make them attracter to each other?

I think it's more like some form of DNA-esque thing, except it's in the patterns of code. Certain bits are on and off and the other NML's may be the opposite, kinda like magnets pulling together, there may be an attraction.

It's hard to tell, since this behavior is relatively new to NML's, starting at or around the current version.

But that's what I meant!

In certain cases when programming most programmers copy code already written by others. In which case the current NMLs would be based code built on old code, where as others are just completely copied and only slightly altered.

I think my best example for showing how that works is from Super Smash Bros. While each character has the same style control layout, some of them have moves similar to other characters because they were cloned from another. (I.E. Fox, Falco, and Wolf).

I wouldn't consider NIKO a clone of BARU, since her code is written differently. Otherwise, she would be classified as a "heavy" as well and use very similar tactics to BARU's.

Yeah I guess not then. I'm probably just over analyzing it then.
