Description I really liked how this picture turned out. I don't typically draw kangaroos, and you need to realize that a fair number of the characters in the Spectrum Raytracer Mod concept have only been drawn as sprites. But everything seemed to go together well for SHILA's picture.

SHILA is seen holding a grenade-like capsule. When the capsule is active, it "explodes" with counter-code that is programmed to corrupt nearby files. The counter-code primarily works on established and well-defined system threats; if the files in its range are non-threats or unlisted, they are not affected. This is a weapon exclusive to her, and is one of the utilities she carries along with recovery code for allies.

She has a rather sweet personality to her, but she's quite strong and takes no nonsense from anyone. I suppose a good parallel would be the somewhat stereotypical lady trucker. She does like to say "sweetie" to folks. You'd think she'd have an Australian accent to her, but I keep visualizing maybe some large cafeteria lady voiced by Tress Macneille. X3

Nice work, it's also good that you decribe the characters' personalities!

Hn! She's pretty... Being a pretty big fan of kangaroos, I really do like her design. I do tend to wonder how much time each of the individual NML's creator had to make them look so cute, though... Wouldn't think that'd be a priority over functionality, but I've yet to see one that's ugly. XD

Well, of course functionality came first. Later updates of NML structure would include avatars made by their creators, starting simple but becoming enhanced with each new release of the AIAMS program. The avatar data is kinda like the ID3 data in MP3's. It's there if you want it to be, but not necessary for it to work.

All that said, I think it turned out all right. ;3

This is why I keep hanging around, Malamite. Because you have interesting stuff going on and it seems like you think of every possible answer to any given question long before it's asked. XD

That reminds me of that pizza game you came up with. Any relation between the characters?
I like SHILA.nml's style, it's got a bit of smug to it while care-free. She looks like she can clear out

The only relation between them is that they're kangaroos. The only two I've ever made.

And the style isn't too far off, but I can't imagine her being that good of a dancer. She's not THAT graceful; she's one of the most graceful "heavies" out there, but that doesn't say much. X3

A heavier character with good stability, then? I think I follow.
Though I'm thinking of a spinoff racer game now...

I can visualize that, yeah. Heh.
There are so many of those kinds of racing games, though, and so many play styles...

"I had to switch to grade F meat."

Being a Red Vs. Blue fan I can't help but imagine her being voice by Yomary Cruz, the voice of Sheila the thank.

If that weapon corrupts code, wouldn't it be potentially dangerous the system?

MalamiteLtd In reply to NS-Games [2009-09-02 02:46:52 +0000 UTC]

It could be potentially dangerous, but her weapon is only used in very particular situations. If the situation is too delicate she will not use it. If there's little around to harm outside of malware (a.k.a wide open), she won't be afraid to use them.

Her other weapon is of course her own brute strength, which rivals most other "heavies" out there. Even her forced hops can devastate everyone around, biding her and the allies some time.

But as a "courier" she has that marvelous utility of helping damaged files recover, so it's likely that even if her explosive weapon does cause damage, there's a good chance she has the code to repair it too.

Yeah, thinking about it too. Most of the time when it comes down to viruses and corrupt code, a virus, once it's infected a system, will normally duplicate and attach itself to a program that while running will allow it to duplicate some more. So in certain cases, to remove a corrupt file or virus, you'd typically have to disable or destroy the code to keep it from multiplying, and then repair it.
