Description Well at least I think it was a hornet. Found that bugger lying around dead some years ago and had it in a small box all the time... finally decided to take some photos of it and here's the best of them.
I have no idea what that strange stuff above the mandibles is.

Light used: Daylight + torch light from the side
bellows @ 150 mm extension
Hanimex 80-200mm f4 Macro @ 80mm & f22

cropped to nearly square format [EDIT: changed it against the uncropped version, as it seems to me on further thought a if cropping is forbidden by the rules]
some curves & levels
dust removal from the paper the hornet lies on
resized to 1200 pixel wide
