Interesting. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to do maps and such of my speculative evolution project. I feel like charcoal and pencils may pose a bit of a challenge getting the required crisp, easy to read appearance that a map should have.
Then again, old maps were made with charcoals on canvas.

Digital is the best way to make a project map, because it can be edited. If you have Photoshop in any form, or maybe Gimp, you can even put different elements in layers so they can be edited separately. I have layers for biomes, water, tectonic plates, continent outlines, etc.

Well I have gimp. You actually recommended it to me on the speculative evolution forums. Still learning how to use it, but I may get good enough to be able to do something as graphically basic as a map. As for drawings, definitely staying with my pencils and charcoal.

Oh, are you CalfEggs? Disclaimer, I have never used Gimp. I also only use digital when I have to, and have always preferred to draw or paint. It just feels more natural to me.
