Even though you can run into another already shattered tube to get a clue, it's easy to overlook things.
So yeah, damn that part!

Yeah, I didn't actually get stuck here because of that pre-shattered tube. What really got me was the bridge you have to run on. My cartridge didn't come with a manual (or, for that matter, a working save battery) so my roommate had to look it up for me. Still, a surprising number of people don't enter through the wrecked ship, and therefore don't see the hint tube until later.

Oh right. That damn crumbling bridge... The first time in the game I discovered that there was a run-button.
It was a bit easier for me, since I bought the big box(which I regret buying) which included a strategy guide(a poor one at that). It's still my favorite game though!

OH MA GOODNESS. I was SOOOOOO confused at the part for what seemed like days. Then my friend was over, and I was running around like "Hey, if you see anything I can do, let me know" and telling him about all the stuff. He had never played Metroid before, and when we got to that glass part, he's like "Why don't you just break the glass?" I was like whaaaaahhhhh???? Pshhh, no way that can be it. I've never had any instance where I needed to break glass before. And then boom. It worked. I was amazed
