Description Two words: Leeroy Jenkins! [link]

Here is my entry for day thirteen of Equestria Daily’s Artist Training Grounds II art event (I’m still not completely sure if it’s a contest or just a fun event .___.). The theme today was “a pony in command/in the lead”. I was going more for the “in the lead” option, but I guess I sorta did both for this one XD It could go either way.

I must say that this entry is probably one of my more ambitious ones so far. I have not one, not two, but four ponies in this sketch! And they’re all wearing armor, have wings, and running full belt into battle, kicking up dust as they go In the lead is Annabelle, of course, with all of the other kaigunnellies I’ve introduced in my entries so far following closely behind. We have Carol (bottommost), Annabelle’s older sister and the kaigunelly of song; Julia (uppermost), the kaigunnelly of dance; and Martin (rear), Annabelle’s cousin and the kaigunelly of 3D art and handicrafts.

Trivia Time
It may be hard to make out, but Carol actually is exhibiting her preferred dragon-like wings this time, making them like those of Princess Luna’s royal guards [link] Julia, however, is not exhibiting her usual fairy-like wings, having large feathered wings more like those of Princess Luna or Princess Celestia. Martin, too, who usually forsakes exhibiting any kind of wings, has large, feathered wings. This is because feathered wings provide better maneuverability and speed in battle than the stiffer, fragile fairy-wings, which is perfect for carrying someone as heavy and muscular as Martin around. Annabelle and Carol are light and small enough for larger wings to not be necessary.

Carol’s dragon-like wings are perhaps a little faster and agile than the feathered wings, but slightly more fragile, having many more small bones and fleshy webbing that can be broken or torn. Which reminds me to state an important fact: though the kaigunellies’ wings are magical constructs and not actually attached to their bodies, they are still sensitive, able to feel pain and be damaged or hurt. They can also be subject to strong emotion with their exhibition sometimes being inhibited when its owner is extremely frightened or sad or in great pain. Thus they will have no wings. In fact, a kaigunelly’s body is technically all a magical construct and not real at all since each kaigunelly is a spirit embodying a specific art, which is just a notion, an idea. I won’t go into too much detail here about that though. I’ll save all in-depth explanations for a proper reference sheet (which I’m still currently working on)

I modeled Annabelle’s and her friends’ armor after that of the princesses’ royal guards as well, but I mixed and matched certain features to make them more personalized and more easily distinguishable (at least if this sketch were colored). The kaigunellies’ armor is silver and blue, not gold like the standard royal guard. The crests/plumes on their helmets match their hair color and general style.

Thanks It feels odd if I deviate from the show's style, so I'm trying to emulate it as much as possible XD

Thanks, and thanks for the watch
If I had more time, I could actually color them and shade them better, but, as it is, these aren't terribly serious drawings...even though it takes me like 3-4 hours to draw them usually My perfectionist nature prevents me from working faster. I'm also currently working on other projects, so that slows me down a bit too.

Pff, they wear clothes ...sometimes. I think the most I've seen a casual background pony wearing is a saddle, a shirt or vest, and/or a hat. And, lets' face it, they'd be tripping over themselves all day if they wore much more than that.
