I realized that I haven’t really posted any Redwall fan art here, or Watership Down fan art. I need to fix that.This is one of three works I’m entering into the L. Ron Hubbard Writers and Illustrators of the Future contest www.writersofthefuture.com/con… This is the only original work created specifically for the contest, the other two are Moonshadow malimarthemage.deviantart.com/… and The Blue Patrol malimarthemage.deviantart.com/… I’m not sure I’ll win, but I might as well, right?
Anyway, this work is based on the novel Mossflower by Brian Jacques en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mossflow… It’s not really depicting any particular scene, but just sums up the major plot point of Martin (the one with the broken sword) going to the mountain Salamandastron to recruit the help of the mountain’s ruler against an oppressive tyrant.
I’m still not awesome at painting digitally, at least in terms of lineless, realistic art, but this was still fun to do.

The mountains on the left and the sea on the right look just... aaah. I'm repeating myself, but I CAN'T HELP IT I LOVE THIS XDD Not to even mention the sky! Have you taken a look at the sky?!

I came up with the layout and setting, yeah. But I looked at a lot of other artist's paintings to get the colors right (mostly ).
The mountains and sky were hard to do. I'm glad you like them xD

This is most fabulous, yes! Love your big painty pieces, they are so detailed and have such depth. Love everything about this, and I've never read/watched anything related to Redwall or anything related.

I was trying to emulate 's style in pieces like thishuussii.deviantart.com/art/Her… He said I need to work on my value and contrast, making shadows deeper. Contrast has always been something I'm hesitant about.
You might like the Redwall books, though they're more for teens than adults. But they're still really good books.
And I've got some Watership Down stuff planned, so you shouldn't have to wait super long.
