Wow... For some reason, This got me thinking about Princess Peach, and how her big, billowy dress let her do those big gliding/hovering jumps in Super Mario Advance...
And now I'm picturing Princess Judai doing those, too... >w<;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Malindachan In reply to Saphiire [2009-10-01 05:55:29 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I went ahead and got to the hoop skirt online to save on money and stress. it was only $25-30 ^.^

well, I am the same person in the costume XD
wasn't too hard to tailor it to the right size ^.^

Saphiire In reply to Malindachan [2009-10-05 20:43:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I suppose. I wouldn't think to buy a hoopskirt online- way to go! I guess I would assume that because few people can make those sort of things anymore, that they would be very difficult to find. I've tried finding things like folding tophats or tophat patterns before and come up fairly empty. It could just be me though: I usually go to the fabric store or something the next year, completely opposite time of the year, and find something like what I was looking for previously. Lots of "facepalm" moments.

we actually had similar ideas XD
my boyfriend and I had made some fanart a while back (I made a chibi princess Judai bookmark and he had made a cinderella parody fanart), and he stumbled across her account and found that she was doing disney & GX parody art too. XD
It was a beginning of a beautiful friendship lolz

ryoko-mitsirughi [2009-09-30 07:27:01 +0000 UTC]

can you explain to me somewhat part of the design for the dress, like how to make it poofy and the rolls of fabric because I am trying to make a dress (sadly not a cosplay dress) but a dress similar to that design but with more of the dress rolls so to speak. I don't know how to explain it really and I don't want to put the picture of the design up until it's done.

Malindachan In reply to ryoko-mitsirughi [2009-09-30 16:14:07 +0000 UTC]

well, to make it poof, I just got a hoop skirt with petticoat online.

to get the red skirt to roll, I just did some really large stitches down each section where I wanted it to gather up and tugged the thread to pull it all up. I then just reinforced it by going bach through the folds a few more times and finished with a knot :3

ryoko-mitsirughi In reply to Malindachan [2009-09-30 16:36:17 +0000 UTC]

cool I will have to look at the hoop skirts with the petticoats to figure out there design and see if I would prefer to buy one or make one. *loves making things by hand*

Oh ok I see what you mean. I had to reference some of your other pictures to see exactly what you meant because I just though you had the red on bunched up fabric on a plain white skirt with trim at the bottom. I didn't notice that it wasn't the caseuntil afterwards. lol at my not noticing things.
So you basically you tied a long string of thread to the bottom of the fabric then pulled up to give it that gathered up effect, then sewed over it and reinforced it. Is that correct?

Thanks for the awesome tips.
