Description Hinge is a handgun with a round clip designed to surround your wrist. The advantage of a round clip is tons of extra bullets and it balances the weight of the weapon nicely where it is.

Hinge can be set to automatic and semi-auto fire.

i'm curious if you could possibly port some of these briliant weapons for SFM or GMOD, if you ever heard of them, i bet the community would be grateful :V

Looks good, although minimalism and the gloss is not to my taste. If you move a clip and put it in front of a control handle the fire, then it will be essentially practical. And where does this love for the glossy textures?

this is a really interesting design, alot of other people seem to think so as well but theres a lot of consensus that its im practical. I however dont think so. you make futuristic weapons but all of the people here are expecting them to work on the same principals as traditional firearms which haven't had any real changes in operation since the end of world war II.

I think differently however, why have an unconventional weapon work through conventional mean?
two of the main problems that people have stated are no shell ejection port, and that the action of the weapon is too far back for there to be room for the firing pin to operate. these however are conventional problems. not problems of the future.
to solve the first, I would suggest the use of caselesss rounds. There are a few weapons I know of that use caselesss rounds but nothing that has been widely accepted. Caseless ammunition is unique in that it doesnt use a casing, the primer, propellant and bullet are all one solid block and when fired, the primer and propellant are destroyed, leaving only the bullet. therefore, no need for ejection port.
to solve the second, these rounds could be electronically fired. When using an electrical charge instead of the traditional firing pin, there is no length restriction in the rear of the weapon (a very common problem with today bullpup weapons) weapons like the Metal storm use this technology, in addition to the caseless ammunition design to produce incredibility high rates of fire (albiet with multiple barrels)

thats just my two cents, on this design. I personally love it. especially because it is so unconventional.

The purpose of the round magazine design is supposed to hold as many ammunition as possible. The use of caseless ammunition kind of defeats the purpose, as caseless ammunition are much wider than standard ammunition. Also, the use of caseless ammunition bring up another problem: Caseless ammunition tend to leave behind a lot of buildup within the barrel, much higher than normal ammunitions, this forces the weapon to be cleaned much more frequently than normal weapons, or else it will cause jams. It does not matter how advanced the weapon it, you can never the propellant undergo complete combustion, and the chemical binder will always be left behind after the firing, where as conventional ammunition do not need to worry about that.

Another problem with this design is how heavy the entire weapon will be. If you are planning to hold that many rounds, you better be ready to carry it all in one hand, as the author said, the mass is balanced on the grip, using a second hand to hold the front of the weapon will not help.

One other thing, how are you supposed to carry extra magazines? This magazine seems very bulky, and hard to pack. Unless one does not need to carry magazines for this, just shoot it and throw it away?

wow! well very well thought out comment!
and extremely appreciated lol. your right i do get a lot of flak for this weapon in particular, although your view is refreshing!
and ive heard of electric firing, but caseless bullets is actually a new concept to me, but that is really cool!

Mikhail-Faulken [2009-03-04 09:00:47 +0000 UTC]

While this is a unique design, how does the firing pin reach a cartridge to strike the primer? The rounds are all too far in the back to give the firing pin any charging time, and cannot strike the primer with enough force to explode and eject a round. Moreover, how does it cycle rounds, since short-recoil operation is obviously not feasible? Is some sort of gas-redirection used? How does firing with a consistently closing action with this operation work without overheat?

It's a cool gun, but I can't see any modern way a factory could mass-produce it with such a strange action (which you have not explained where I can see.) Rounds don't just magically come out of a barrel.

thnx man!!

im not so sure how well it would be a real gun though....
theres been speculation (from a few above commenters) that it would be to back heavy, or that the rotating bullets would hurt the guns accuracy while firing. but i dont think those would be as much of a problem as the reloading would be.

heh. fun sig. i also like being naked!! lol. and grats on finding the love of ur life

(looking through your stuff again, still haven't had time to see everything : P)
This is a damn cool design. I can almost feel how cool it would be to reload this thing, too. The back part wouldn't really go back, as much as you'd keep hold of the grip with your main hand and smack the release button with your other hand and the front of the gun would smack forward, dropping the clip. The feel of that would be very fun : ) I'm gonna fav this, as it's one of the more unique and well thought out gun designs that I've seen in a long time, and I likes me some unique gun designs. ^_^ I would kill for an airsoft replica of this O_O

And sorry to double comment, but as for the thought of decreased accuracy due to a 1-handed grip: that barrel looks plenty long enough to slap on a front grip to me if one wanted to. Wouldn't help much if you wanted to go akimbo with a set of em, though. Ah well, some wrist-strengthening exercises may be in order.
