The Girl Name Setka (First name Set and family name Ika translates to Setka in Oootoko language - only females combine their names into one)
Activities When Setka is not fighting as a senshi, she is on the prowl for a husband as all Oootoko her age start to get the urge to settle down. However, her urge to travel and have great adventures is equally as strong, so she often swims to places where she is forbidden. Many times she must transform to save herself. She also tries to find ways out of the ocean and transforms to investigate the dry parts of her world. She cannot stay long on land, so she swims at the surface for hours scouting everything she can see from the safety of the water.
Dreams Setka dreams of leaving her world and discovering new places and people.
Favorites Setka nourishes herself on tiny microorganisms from her world. When she sucks water through her "mouth," small organisms get trapped and are digested. Oootoko do not have a culinary tradition. However, there are two parts of the ocean where Oootoko are forbidden to venture that she has gone that do have the best tasting microorganisms as well as strange shiny rocks (how she found the crystal that lets her transform).
Fears Setka fears being useless and of confined spaces. She also fears drying out. Being adventurous, while helps her from feeling useless, is also a cause of great concern for her and can make her quite anxious.
Weakness Setka must stay moist or risk death. She can travel on foot when she is dry but it is painful and slow... and her only goal at that point is to get back to water. She is also easily blinded by bright lights. When she isn't transformed, she doesn't have the protective goggles from her helmet to shield her eyes from brighter lights. Out of water, Setka is both deaf and blind... She must be transformed as a senshi to be able to see and hear as she requires the protection of her senshi helmet.
Other Setka, and her whole species, is unable to speak. They are telepathic creatures. The openings at the front of her face are not for vocalizations but for breathing. Oootoko live towards the bottom of the oceans on their planet where there is little oxygen and light. The holes at the sides of her head are for hearing. She pulls water in to them and feels for vibrations that tell her what is out there, how far and how large. She may be able to see in low light but she isn't blind in complete darkness either.

Her World Tsuku-Tsukui (often called Tsu)

Tsu is a planet made entirely of water (both salt and fresh plus a polluted acidic water). Depending on where you are born and live depends on color variation. Setka was born in salty water and is able to travel in both salt and fresh water. She also has two forms: a day and night form. Being from a watery world, Setka must remain moist at all times or risk personal injury and possibly even death.

Her Species Oootoko

Setka is a species called an Oootoko, essentially a squid person. Oootoko can live for around 200 years before dying of old age. For the most part, her form is humanoid. As a child, she had tentacles (8 of them) plus arms. As Oootoko's grow and mature, their tentacles shorten until only two legs and two arms are left with two tentacles coming from their head. Some Oootoko are born with added powers and can call forth power to transform into a hybrid - Setka is one of these Oootoko. All Oootoko use telepathy to speak to each other as they do not have a way to "speak" in the traditional sense.

Special Ability - change form -

Setka is able to change into a tiny "kawaii" squid, like that of a child. She is able to maneuver much quicker in this form and is incredibly fast. She is unable to transform into her kawaii form as a senshi. This is a special ability of her particular tribe of people.

Response to Feedback from the Qualification Round At this time I have not received any feedback from any judge, but based on the feedback given to other competitors, I am guessing I was docked points for using an alien senshi in a non-traditional fuku (one competitor was docked points because their senshi didn't look like the classic senshi and their senshi looks much more like a senshi than Indium) and probably for the front-facing foot being an oddity (I tried to fix it many times, but only was able to get it that good). My background was also simple, so I am guessing that might have something to do with it - I don't believe the coloring had anything to do with it nor highlighting or shading - but it is possible that my style threw someone (or all of you) through a loop as I do skinny senshi with longer than normal limbs. Even in this work, after the sketch was done with anatomically correct proportions, I elongated her arms and legs and made her skinnier. I know I will always be docked points for this, but it is a stylistic choice that helps to define my work.

About Round 1: Civilian Ika Wow, that background was hateful. I don't ever EVER do custom backgrounds that detailed unless it is for a very good reason - the reason in this case is I had no feedback thus no direction on what to improve on... and since we are judged based on improvement from the previous round, I made the choice to go all out on the background as well as on a very dynamic pose - something I rarely do ... perspective. sakkysa makes perspective look so much easier than it is lol. I also got the due date mixed up - I thought this was due the 15th which is why it is done now. I was running out of time waiting on feedback and wanted to make sure I had enough time to complete the work without having to rush it and be sloppy. I did get in the zone last night and was up from 8pm until 1am coloring her and then again for about 5 hours today just on the background and finishing touches. Overall, I am really happy with the work - it depicts Setka making a nervous glance as she is in a forbidden area (that moment when she found that special shiney rock that lets her transform - can you see it?). :3 It took about 27 hours from start to finish once I got a pose I didn't want throw my computer and tablet out the window from... And there were MANY poses lol
