Chapter 1
It was a lovely day in the village, birds were singing, businesses were booming and bustling, the flora was picture perfect, and everything was right in the world or more specifically it was right in my world. You see, part of the reason I say that is that it is a mountain community only meaning no traveler in or out of the village which means no one brought in any trouble. I often like to compare it to those mountain monasteries, just so peaceful and carefree. If it had not been for the tower on top of it this would probably be seen as peace and friendly all the time, but sadly this village had at one point been a fort during a great war, long since past and done with which had lead to the deaths of thousands, and was now the tomb of all of those who had die or at least the ones on the side who had built the thing.
And that my dear readers is where me and my family come into this, you see my mother and father are archeologists/researchers that had been given permission to not just study the old structure but to live next to it as well. And because we had no other family left to watch over me and my siblings we had no other choice but to go with them to the site which meant we had to give up our life in Missouri to live out here. Ok fine I have always loved going on trips, especially staying/camping in the mountains, but having to live on the peak of one was not easy, it Probably would have had a nice view if it weren't for the tall trees around the village. Now not to say that there hadn't been attempts to build platforms on the trees or the cliffs but it had always proven difficult thanks to the outatude and the mountain wind, which thanks to said trees keep many people from having to suffer the cold winds of the mountain or even worse getting blown off of it entirely.
No no, the only way to get not just a good view but the best view was to climb up the town in the middle of the village which was what I was going to do today. So I found myself heading up the the long sets of stairs that lead up form the main ground level, up the hill and right up to the entrance to the tower, but there was a problem and that was the climb, you see you have to use the scaffolding in side the tower to get up due to the fact the the old stairs we long gone, but the problem was that scaffolding was old and dangerous to go up alone which meant if I made one false move I just might accidentally dislodge the scaffolding and cause a piece of the tower to fall away which could mean that it would bring the tower down killing me and other in the process. It was an absolute miracle that the tower was still standing After all this
time, which in fact is the reason this place was so popular for archeologists and researchers to come after. It was like an ancient leaning tower of pisa, except for the leaning part. And now I was the next person to come up here to try my chances.
Anyway As I entered the door of the town I couldn't help but feel a chill up my spine at the realization that I was walking on a mass grave was unnerving, but I put it aside, after all I had been living on this mountain for years and I was not going to skip out on one of my favorite things to do here. The old scaffolding that now served as part stairs, part supports Creaked as I walked up it. The only light came through the cracks in the walls of the tower which made me wonder what it must have been like for the soldiers during those days as they wouldn't have had any lit torches to mount or any windows to get light from. After a long and blinding time climbing
the old creaking scaffolding I eventually bumped my head slightly on the top of the hatch and pushed it open. I found myself staring at the floor and the battlements and after climbing up I was now staring at the whole of the world before me. Nothing but the tree covered slope of the mountain and the wide open plains of the and the bottom of it. The grass gleamed like gold in the morning sunlight. It was like starring a landscape in a painting. It was the most beautiful thing I got to see in my everyday life and it never got old. It was like that time me and my family had taken a trip to hoover dam and gotten the chance to look over the edge and see the who fair down it went it was just a view you never got used to. After a while Amen found me leaning over the edge of the battlements. “So Should I be the one to tell your mom that you fell to your death or should you”. Amen said. “First off, that makes no sense. How can I tell her if I am already dead? James said. "I don’t Know that is that's the question”. Amen joked. “Alright alright I’ll get down”. I grumbled. Getting down I stared at what he was wearing, he normally wore red robes that were too long and dragged too much for his own good, but now he was wearing a dress shirt and slacks as if he was the one going to church and not leading it. His balding head gleamed like a light bulb in the morning sun and his brow showed confidence as always. “So why do you want me there?” I said. “Because it is time, remember what we talked about”. It hit me quicker than a rock. “Oh right, the trip, but wait, that's today”. I asked. “Yes it is and you need to get ready.” Amen beamed. I couldn't believe it was finally time to go down the mountain to the shack. Usually it was used as a retreat for members of the ministry staff to go to, but other times it was used to pass off the rains for the next preacher of the church aka me. But there was another reason I wanted to go down there, a far better reason. To see beyond the trees and the rocks and everything else, it would be the first time he would get to see ground level in a long time, not since he was 5 years old living in Kansas city near the wood backs. He could hardly wait anymore. I didn't even give any time to say anything further as I ran at top speeds down the stairs with reckless abandon. Amen had to yell at the top of his lungs just to get to stop before I brought the tower town on us and the entire village as well. But I didn't care. I was finally going to do what I had wanted to do since I got here. Leave this place.
Me and my family lived in the guest house in the village where all special visitors stayed like archaeologists, researchers, explorers, etc. but only one group of visitors stayed there now, the Iyperion Family.
