yay, the finished project of my 3rd free drawing assignment. Also another part of my dark arts collection.yeah... if you're wondering why the wings look so weird, it's b/c i used glitter on them to make them look sparkly.
so, anyways... i'm having a bit of a problem considering my original art... and art in general. It seems that whenever i try to do an original piece and try and make it look nice with effort, considering the fact that it is original, it always seems that it's always left on the back burner.
sure, i understand that people like to see more fanart and stuff, and it's not like that's bad or anything, but it can get pretty freaking annoying sometimes. especially when it's a piece of fanart that I worked on with little effort, compared to something original that I worked alot harder on, the effortless fanart gets more recognition and the other piece is just... there. *sighs*
but whatever. maybe one day my stuff won't really suck anymore.^^'

I hate it when you do something you don't care about gets more recognition than something that you've worked your ass off on! it's SO frustrating.
I liked this one a lot, Amandeh. When you showed it to me it looked like you were really proud of yourself and that you had a lot of fun with it! Not only did it look great but you really put yourself into your work! That's what counts

Very cool. I like to see a good traditional illustration, especially when it seems like digital art has taken over. Love the original character by the way.

Haha... You're stuff sooooo does NOT suck. If anything, I wish I had your eye for color and stylization.
Now, about this piece. Really well drawn, great composition. I also like the sense of color.
BUT the reason it looks kinda amateurish is the way it's been colored. You have all the white poking through your coloring. Looks fine for the wings and the bg, but for the jacket and the hair, take one of two suggestions:
1. Don't be afraid of being heavy-handed or
2. Cross hatching is your friend and can add layers of visual interest to a piece.
Or a combo of the two. I had the same problem back in my ole' AP art class. (I got a 5 on my AP portfolio, though, so I had to have learned something.)
Don't you ever give up! This is beautiful in it's raw potential.

well, the thing with the heavy colouring has a couple of problems. when you think about actual fabric, there is a bit of a texture to it, and the lighter colouring gives it more of that effect with the white poking through. i did that intentionally. the other reason i did it that way is because it makes it stand out to the more solidly coloured background.
as for the hair, colouring hard would ruin it on many levels. the lighter colouring gives me a better feel for the softer shading, and if i coloured it hard, i would'nt be able to shade the shine in the hair properly. also, i screw up more if i colour hard, and i can't blend properly. i also do not have the correct pencil crayons for it; it wouldn't turn out right T_T
i wanted to avoid crosshatching for the sake of emphasysing on the colour; i didn't want to give it that kind of shading; it would have ruined my intention.
i'm sorry, i tend to really dislike colouring hardly; alot of pictures are done with the softer colouring anyways.

Crazy....It's a technicolor dreamcoat! To me, this is like a punk rock angel person, but that's ok because this looks like a interesting character. The floating feathers pwn all, especially with different color halo.
Also the glitter on the wings made them look kind of metallic, and gives a kind of realistic feel in contrast with the drawing.
