Description Simple title for this drawing - "July"

My first drawing since my elbow operation. All is well and I'm pleased to report I have no problem in drawing

In fact I'm looking forward to trying to colour this drawing using pencils (as well as Photoshop).. Something I haven't done in a long time.

Enjoy colouring Mandalas? Check out my book here: www.amazon.com/The-Mandala-Col… Also available from other Amazon.xx Thx!

This mandala is 56cm in diameter.. on bristol board.. using a selection of fineliners 0.1mm to 1mm and a light box

Hope you like it

Steve, firstly another thank you! .. and now, it interests me to hear you say that.. what makes it 'better' , for you, than most of the others?

Hi Jim

A few things. First, the detail is just fantastic, with its complexity and layering well balanced so that the elements stand out, but do so in a way which does not take away from the whole. The mandala is cohesive. Second, I like the interplay between the mechanical and organic, with the ancient Americas feel this creates. Third, sometimes your use of the organic sometimes can be a little flippant - and while sometimes I have a chuckle, I tend to move on rather than coming back to such mandalas (This is just a personal preference, so don't take it personally - I should just loosen up). So there you have it.

cheers

Steve

Firstly, apologies for the late reply. I've been caught up with physio and a I had a broken computer. Anyway, I have taken what you have said on board. Looking back through my drawings I can see you are definitely right in how I chosen both mechanical and organic symbolism. A lot of these images represent various entities I have encounted in psychedelic trips. The smilies were put in for a chuckle.. but since being approached by various professional companies I have decided this is a path I no longer wish to pursue, if I want to be taken seriously. Thanks for taking the time out Steve. It's been very informative and useful to have such wonderful feedback like yours.

Thank you for your feedback.. I like attention to detail. I think I have a bit of OCD... (you have to be to create drawings such as these). The details are here to stay

Thank you. Can I ask you what makes it beautiful? What do you look for in a mandala? What would make the most outstanding piece ever?

ghardegh In reply to Mandala-Jim [2013-07-14 19:47:18 +0000 UTC]

Difficult to say. Generally it is something subconscious.
This Mandala (like the most from you) is very rich of details. I admire its accuratesse.

Ooops. My reply was somehow misdirected ... Sorry for the confusion.
May I ask you something in return?
What do you think of freestyle Mandalas, created in an intuitive process with no focus on perfection?

Thanks very much.. I must have some distant past life memories (not sure if I really believe in all that stuff really ) but my work is often compared to these periods

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NoraBlansett In reply to Mandala-Jim [2013-07-14 16:15:21 +0000 UTC]

It's all the details and the symmetry. Β I'm very comfortable with patterns and circles. Β I'm on the autism spectrum, so your mandalas really appeal to me and feel relaxing -- while at the same time it's a visual feast. Β There's a lot to take in and I don't get bored and move on quickly -- yet I'm not overwhelmed. Β When they are coloured, they are bright and cheery, exciting and dynamic. Β Truly wonderful works!

Thank you for taking time out to write this feedback. It's really great to get an idea of what people like in your work. I think I'm on the OCD spectrum.. With the repetition I think you have to be. I'm also pleased that you like the coloured versions. They take quite a while (many, many evenings) but I'm usually happy with how they turn out

Thank you Kirsten. Is it the details that you like from my mandala patterns? I'm trying to get a feel of what really makes one of these designs 'amazing'. I mean, my work gets called amazing a lot.. but I'd like to know what it is that people really like ?
