I think it was more....he'd lived 2,000 years, and was from the Roman Empire, so he'd seen so much of humanity, and lived to see a new millenium, and was just ready to die. He decided that it was his time. It reminds me of the "immortality is a curse" idea.
I did love the look on all the christian's faces when he goes "I am older than your jesus"
The moment at his end with Sookie was tearjerking. I do love that he respected humans so much.

I am glad I am not the only one who got "Jesus" from Godric. I had declared him my favorite character, and then, just like every other favorite character I ever declare, he died. I was so pissed.
