For letting me hold you close as I cried when all you really wanted to do was get some sleep.
For putting up with my games of dress-up and putting you through the sprinkler.
For making me laugh so hard I could hardly breathe.
For somehow knowing that I've had a hard day, and sitting beside me quietly, your little body lightly leaning against mine.
For being sweet to all of my friends and making them feel loved and special.
For playing Adventure Girl with me and being my trusty sidekick.
For hiding under the covers with me when I was scared of the dark.
For coming up and apologizing every time you do something naughty by looking at me, unblinking, until I am forced to look back.

Most of all, though,
Thank you for being a friend to me when I had none.
You made me realize that as long as I could make it through the cruelty of each school day, you would be there, waiting to jump into my arms and show me how lucky I really was.
