Kotomine Kirei is a character from Fate/stay night, a Visual Novel turned anime. Source of the famous "people die when they are killed" mistranslation, as well as the internet term "GAR".

It's a fairly well known part of the Nasu Verse, with a large component of the creator's fanbase stemming from the series/novel.
... Well, well known in certain circles, at least.
I'm personally more a fan of the other series, but that's personal preference.
