This was in response to the update on the Smash Bros. Dojo site today. Come on, already, the two princesses (Peach and Zelda) are playable fighters - how come they need to be rescued again? Couldn't Zelda just teleport out of there anyway?This is what I think should have happened in the situation.
And for the record, I really hate Petey Pirahna. Everything from his huge, eyeless head to his outie belly button is disgusting. Just sayin.
I'm pleased with this one, so I'll probably be redoing it with outlines and full color. Look forward to it!

I really frickin hate Petey, I really do. Every single Nintendo game that comes out these days has a "eh, lets throw Petey in there too" attitude. >_< One comforting thought is, this is Smash Bros. Which means we can, at long last, beat the living crap out of him.

I thought a similar thing... I mean I was watching the videos... Kirby runs... and a second later Peach and Zelda are in cages... Peach screaming and Zelda giving a look like "What just happened"... how could Petey of all characters suddenly capture them? Peach beat him in her own game... and Twilight Princess' Zelda is shown to be a tough fighter type Princess, so something must have happened... since otherwise it would be straight up herbicide...

I'm agree with you! You have all the rigth, I mean, Peach and Zelda are very powerfully characters, I don't get the point with that... and petey pirahna it's such a weak character. But anyway, your pict is great!

Sorry, my inner-smash-bros-nerd speakin out here. Technically, she couldn't teleport out. If she had that ability, she would have been able to teleport through ledges in the game (which would have made here a much more popular choice fighter).
And though i somewhat agree with you on this one, i gotta say i like the formula. Cause they're the two who always need rescuing. It's what they're ridiculously successful franchises were built off of. Then Nintendo put a twist on it for Brawl. You can only rescue ONE of them from Petey Piranha. Which should make for an interesting start to the story.

Ah, but you forget that it's a cut scene. You can do different things in cut scenes than game.

Fighting game it is! But it wouldn't make sense to see the character out of their roles or acting completely different from how they've been portrayed in their titles. Like... to see Mario be evil or not care about rescuing Peach... wouldn't see it. So why would we expect the princesses to play different roles? Though i understand what point you're trying to make, i'm glad Nintendo kept the formula. It's what's worked for them for nearly two decades now. It wouldn't make sense for them to stop. Besides, we don't know what happens after you rescue one. It could be that Mario needs saving later?

Alignment is totally different than whether or not somebody always needs saving. They don't need to be portrayed as helpless victims that get kidnapped at least once in every game. Princess Peach didn't get kidnapped in Super Princess Peach. She broke out of her previous role in that game and that was perfectly fine.

Do note i did say she's been proving herself useful in recent games. Also, i never played SPP. Didn't exactly appeal to me as an interesting title. As far as Petey Piranha goes, of course he's a loser; he's a bad guy. Nuff said right? But despite that, i still like him as a character. And i'll admit to being happy to seeing his inclusion in the game.
Also, i understand you saying they don't need to be saved all the time, but i think you've missed my point. The Mario and Zelda franchises have been built off of the "Go save the princess! Go get 'er!" story for decades now. And have been dang successful with it, might I add. I'm just saying, they're going with what works, not trying something new. Why? Here's a lesson in marketing and all that for you. When you try something new, you have a balance you must be conscious about. What's the balance? Risk and reward! You risk what's worked (and what fans have fallen in love with) about the series to try something new, and you will be rewarded with either a negative or positive response. Think for a second about how amazingly successful the SSB franchise has been with only two installments! They're not going to take the chance of putting a black mark on Brawl by trying something new. It's just not smart business. It's not that they won't do it in the future (it'd be pretty interesting to play as Zelda, i'll admit), it's just not a smart business move to try the new in what's easily they're newest most successful franchise in a while. I mean, let's face it, they haven't had a big hit like this since the Mario series.
Also, on a completely separate note! THEY ANNOUNCED SONIC THE HEDGEHOG TODAY FOR SSBB!!! I nearly screamed in freakish excitement like a little girl when i read the update today, lol. I know, completely random. But seeing as how you are quite obviously a knowledgeable and avid fan of SSB (including past Nintendo history), i thought you might want to know. Though, seeing as how you're so dedicated, you've probably already seen this update

I agree! less than a minute into the game, and they're already captured, it sucks, because Peach and Zelda can totally hold their own!
...I guess it wouldn't have been QUITE as bad if something a little more... cooler, caught them? Even then, it fails

I absolutely agree with you. Just when they looked so competent and powerful, they are captured in less than a bloody second by one of the most pathetic and ridiculous Mario characters. You illustrated very well what should have happened instead, I'm working on a drawing of the same concept too.

No way. Even with surprise factored in, Petey Pirahna is full of too much suckage to actual capture them like that. They just didn't have any better ideas so the said, "Hey, let's use this pathetic character and make him bigger."
