Hah, yeah, I've seen more and more fanart for it as of late. I wonder if it's getting more popular? Or maybe the fanart has been around for quite some time, and I just didn't notice because I wasn't reading homestuck.
But yeah, I started reading it over the summer, and I didn't get very far in, mainly because I was intimidated by the way it kept me sitting there for five hours straight. Literally, it took away any impulse I had to do any other thing for the next five hours. so I'm not very far in, but only because I'm scared of the power it has over me as a reader.

Yeah, same here! Brents always wanting t make references, but he refuses to spoil anything lol Which is understandable, however, I still have intents on reading the thing, crappy computer or not, but I just have to be willing to take my time. Also the fact that Im deffinately still basically at the beggining is so intimidating, even after Ive started reading! Its like, a major commitment. XD

I've been trying to recommend Homestuck to some people lately and what I usually tell them is to just try and get through Act I... like sort of treat it as it's own story and don't really worry about getting any farther than that . I mean usually if they get through Act I, they're either hooked or they're not... but it's also kind of a good mindset to have even if you're intending to read it . I mean it's kind of true... theoretically if one were to stop at the end of the first Act and not go any farther it could stand alone as it's own story... for what that's worth . As I read, I usually just sort of start thinking "in the moment" so it's not as though I'm dying of anticipation trying to read up to a certain part (like, say, meeting the trolls ). I mean now that I have met them it's great, but it actually cuts of at sort of a cliffhanger in the kids' story in order to go and introduce you to all of them and whatever .
Anyway, if Brent wants to make references, he should find you a computer to read on that isn't crap ! It's nice of him not to spoil things, but honestly it's pretty much impossible to spoil Homestuck as a whole... there's always something else . Thing is... a lot of the references are that kind of humor where a line is only funny to those who know the situation that it came from, and when they try to explain the situation, it suddenly doesn't sound all that funny anymore... even if it is hilarious . I can attest to it being frustrating when there's a perfect opportunity for a reference and no one around you to laugh at it... I mean just the other day in my art class people kept mentioning stairs and I was dying on the inside 'cuz if Madison were there we would both think it was hysterical .

Heh, yeah, me too... but I mean Hanna was, like very first 'OMG this is the greatest thing evar' thing for me, but I never really fanart-ed it... mostly 'cause I've got some strange manner of crippling fear of fanarting... Iunno, but I'm getting better at it. Yeah I get what you mean by the art style thing too, and while it's awesome and practically begs to be re-drawn in some manner just to see how it would look, HS is tons easier, 'cause there are some small details you can add whiout having a whole bunch of 'BLUH, the character doesn't look like that BLUH' comments. I mean for whatever reason I always give Dave freckles. It's probably wrong, but it looks right...
Oh god, yeah, I have sadly wasted many hours wherein I really should be asleep reading HS as well as all the fan-adventures and fan-fiction that goes with it. I just can't stop, the updates look so tiny, so you think that you can just read one more, and it'll only take a few seconds, but you just think 'Well, what's one more', then suddenly it's 2 a.m. on a Tuesday XD.
Totally, and like a ton of the memes and in-jokes were created in the first act. I think it's always fun to look back at all the older updates and, like, compare then to the newer ones. I love the differences in how the 'hero mode' style is drawn!

I feel like such a spaz saying this, but there's always something that is "OMG this is the greatest thing evar" for me . I guess it's just a mindset that I naturally gravitate towards, and I think it makes me kind of annoying to other people sometimes, 'cuz I always stay obsessed longer than anyone else . I don't (uh... didn't) usually do a lot of fan art 'cuz I'd try too hard to make the character look like they did in the original style and I never end up satisfied with the end product. I think Tessa's art style was just compatible enough with mine that I could try to emulate her style first (and not end up hating what became of it) and then branch off to my own . Homestuck is sort of the opposite though... I don't feel as compelled to try emulating the original style, and it's probably because it's all drawn on the computer and I rarely, if ever, do that. Meaning I can skip right ahead to applying my own style to the characters ! Still, my level of motivation and what it goes towards is random as all heck, so this may or may not actually be something (I can emulate plenty of other styles, but I don't usually want to ).
I think the way that Andrew Hussie keeps up the characters' appearances seems really loose, so nobody really has to worry about it all that much... or that's my theory . Like in a few panels he's drawn them a little more detailed or differently proportioned, and he's even made jokes about sprite images being backwards when he flips them or something like that, so I guess the general consensus is that whatever you do with 'em, it's all good . Actually, Tessa did that a bit too whenever she'd call herself out for forgetting to put scratch marks on Conrad's face, or include the torn shirt or something in the first chapter . Most of the rest of the stuff I read is manga, so the creators aren't really all that "accessable"... plus they have editors that keep things in check, so everything is all correct and stuff .
I have parents that think I spend too much time on the computer if I stay online for more than and hour and a half at a time, so I don't get too far if I'm not sneaking around or pretending to do legitimate work with the thing . I love all the little in-jokes !! Plus I've also read most of Problem Sleuth, and a lot of the in-jokes from that story transfer over or crop up in unexpected places too . I don't think I've seen the "hero mode" style yet... or at least, I haven't heard it called that... I dunno. Whatever, I can't wait to read farther so I can know these things !!

Haha, nah no need to feel like a spaz, even though I don't do that with as many things, I get so into it it's not even funny . Mmmm, yeah that could be... Yeah I mean for you, looking at some if your earlier Hanna art, it looks very close to Tessa's style, but it becomes more your own later on. I never really did fanart 'cause I'm absolutely terrible at emulating other artists styles, so I've kinda never tried to hard if I royally screwed up one picture. I'd pretty much give fanarting for that fandom.
Hah, yeah, I mean that's pretty uch one of the things I love most about webcomics (and whatever the hell homestuck could be called- an interactive-flash based- Mspaint webcomic(?)) is that, for the most part, the person doing them allows a few mistakes into their final product, and then point it out themselves and a have a good laugh about it. Tessa did that every once in a while, what with the scratches and yeah, it was you who mentioned it first. Heh, and Hussie does keep the designs pretty loose, which is pretty fun and has almost cured my irrational fear of fanarting There's no pressure to keep the style the same really at all. And yeah, even though I haven't read all too much manga (me and anime are, like, bffs over here) I do get what you mean, the editors want their product to be as good as possible, so they take out all those funny little mistakes. While that makes it look better, it takes away just a bit of the charm... I guess, to me anyways.
awww, I guess I should be happy that mine don't really enforce that too much, I mean they think it, and certainly say it for sure, but my brother is waaaay worse tan I am so no problems here. Oh gog man, injokes are quite possibly the best part of a comic/fandom. Though I have yet to read Problem Sleuth... That much, I kiiinda got bored at the start... Is it any good?
Mmm, heh, yeah, that hero mode thing is when the characters get more details and what have you. I guess people call it the 'cause they usually are drawn extra detailed whenever they're about to do something epic!

Yeah, I go through phases where I get super into one thing... I had a Pokemon phase, and a Fullmetal Alchemist phase, and an Invader Zim phase, and my Hanna phase is kind of overlapping with my Homestuck phase, but Homestuck has more activity in general at the moment, so it's a bit more in the spotlight . I mean even once a phase "ends" I'm still completely enamored with these things... I just dial it down a bit from the "fansplosion" level . I think most people get irritated with me when they aren't into what I'm into, 'cuz I tend to want to share the stuff that I like with everybody I know and not everybody wants that . It's usually people in my family who don't get my taste in... uh... stuff, so they're usually the ones that take the brunt of it . Like during my Hayao Miyazaki phase, no one wanted to sit down and commit two hours of their time to that (all my mom ever had to say about those movies was that the characters scream a lot ). Still, I have at least a couple of friends that I can geek out with about whatever I'm interested in... and DeviantArt has helped a lot with that since I joined too .
A friend of mine once introduced me to this concept that somewhere there exists a continuity fairy, and that every time, say, the world gets destroyed or a neighborhood is leveled in an episode/chapter/what have you, but it's back to normal by the next installment... that is her work . If mistakes didn't exist we wouldn't need her, and that would be sad... so I'll take it as it comes ! Oh, and another thing in Hanna that I was wondering about was how Adelade got into Conrad's apartment . I mean Conrad couldn't get into Ples's house 'cuz he wasn't invited, and I highly doubt that Conrad ever invited Adelade into his place . I mean I guess I kind of chalked it up to Conrad just being a really wimpy, new vampire... but still . Oh, and I think Homestuck counts as a web comic... but usually each page has about the same content as one panel in a normal comic... unless it's animated or interactive, but there are interactive web comics out there... right ? Still, I don't think Homestuck would ever translate into print very well. The computer is pretty much it's destined method of conveyance (unless it ever gets adapted into a movie, TV show, or video game... which would be way cool ).
I'm kind of the opposite way with manga and anime. I've got this shelf unit in my basement that I just recently filled up... I think it has about 200 books on it . I haven't been able to buy any more recently due to a severe lack of funding (probably for the best since I am currently at capacity ) but I've been accumulating them since I was in middle school. I dunno why, I just feel compelled to own the stupid things . Usually, even if I really really like an anime, I won't have seen more than the first four to eight episodes because I lack the time/means to watch the rest . Still, in spite of how much/little I may have seen of them, some of my favorite anime includes Mushi-Shi, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, Last Exile, Samurai Champloo, and Cowboy Bebop. Some of them are really typical, and some reside in obscurity, but that's my list .
I'm not all that bad about using the computer, but no one else in my household uses it as much as I do ('cept my dad, but that's for work purposes 'cuz he's a graphic designer so it comes with the territory). Plus I have this... this... younger brother (by three years )! He doesn't use the computer at all (or at least not for fun things), and to my parents he always appears to be working harder than I am . I'm that older sibling that goes along and does everything first, thus finding every single way in existence to screw things up, so that he can watch and figure out what not to do . Plus I've got ADD and he doesn't, and his work ethic is probably stronger than mine even without that, so he usually does better than I did at each age and stage of things anyway . I've been trying to get him into Homestuck too, but it's like trying to walk a cat on a leash in the pouring rain... not really happening . I got him to read the first chapter of Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name, but I couldn't get him any farther in that either . He's just no fun !!
I actually found Problem Sleuth before I found Homestuck 'cuz I saw all these people on DA getting all excited about Homestuck, so I went looking for it, found the site, got really confused, and clicked the "new reader" link where they recommend reading Problem Sleuth first . I liked it, but I'm still not all the way finished with it yet (I should just go ahead and finish it... I'm really close). In the beginning it's a bit like Homestuck in the sense that the plot takes a while to get up steam, but in the meantime the characters just do a whole bunch of goofy stuff that eventually becomes a plot before you know it. It's like that long intermission featuring Midnight Crew, but less serious, and way less abrupt... y'know, more extensive and detailed . They even do that thing where the character will pick up an item and it will actually be two items that switch back and forth each time you use it, which is insanely funny when the item is both a key and a handgun . They also have a lot of candy-based stuff as an overriding theme, which can actually be really awesome.
Oh, I see... I like the hero mode style too !! Can't wait to see more of it !

Ok... uh, wow, first off, not saying this is bad, but long comment is long Eh, whateves, these comments are keeping my english writing skills from getting too rusty, so keep 'em comming!
Yeah, man do I ever know that feeling. It's like I don't wanna be the only one being a total spaz over these things at my school (dun care so much about it at home), but it's like I've really only got my one very best friend there so she gets, like all of it. I could be a fantard and tell others, but I'm pretty sure I've screwed my reputation at school up from, like, day one, so that's a no go. But eh at least Madde (my friend) either starts getting into what I'm into, or she just listens to what I have to say about it. But I'm pretty sure I've ruined her around now though, I showed her fanfiction one day, and she hasn't stopped reading since I showed her. That was over a year ago. And, yeah DA is, like a super huge help to me as a way for me to get my daily fandom dosage
Haha, that's a pretty awesome theory Hmmm, well I always thought that since Conrad lives in a condo that she could get in. I mean, like, uhh, tell if I'm wrong, but you pay a monthly rent for condos like apartments right? So what I was thinking that since Conrad doesn't technically own the place, the guy that owns the building does, and even them it's not his home, that she could get in without an invite. 'Cause also, though this might be a continuity error, but Conrad got into Worth's place for the first time without any real invitation, and well, that place isn't Worth's home is it? Well either that or Conrad had a welcome mat outside his door iunno.
Man I don't even know O.o But I think I read somewhere that Hussie was working on making it into a comic book... I'm not 100% on that, but I think so. Don't know really how that's gonna work out, but it'll probably be awesome. Also a Homestuck movie needs to be made... Actually a series would be better, more time for content
Hah, well I'd probably have a book shelf fulla Manga as well if I wasn't poor and if they didn't cost so damn much! But what I do have is six different anime-sites and a pile of sticky notes with stuff I have to watch and/or have watched. I don't even know what my fave anime is. FMA is up there, but that's partially because that it was pretty much the very first anime I ever watched... Well watched and understood that it was in fact anime (I've seen so much pokemon, naruto, and one piece on tv and wasn't even aware I was watching anime ) Well, Death note was really my first, but it was just okay... Awesome, but nothing to spaz about. Hmph, I haven't seen some of those. Which did you like best?
Oh cool! And ugh, not as cool. I'm not too sure what it's like to be an older sib, my bro's one year older, but bluh, I get what you mean. Hell that's what I'm doing with my bro, watching mistakes and whatnot... Mmm, well there's not too much that you can do about that one . Neh, I have considered on occasion showing either Homestuck or Hanna to my bro, but, it's hella awkward talking to him 'cause he's got, some, like, perpetual older brother grudge against me that only lets up once a blue moon, so that sure ain't happening, I'm just happy that I play the same sport as him. If we end up on different teams it's a great way to relive some stress full-contact sports FTW!
hah, okay, maybe I should give it another chance them Heh, yeah that key thing is awesome, at first I was all 'WTF that makes no sense at all' but them after a while I was like 'oh you guys' then I'd laugh...
Heh, yeah, well there's certainly more to come! It gets used more and more in the flash updates.

Sorry, I do this... this whole rambling thing . It seems like every single time I really get chatting with someone on here, I somehow turn it into a wall-of-text situation ! My writing skills probably aren't all that stellar anyway, but whatever .
I'm okay with being all geektastic at school, just as long as I've got someone else there who has the same capacity to geek . Otherwise I become that super quiet, reclusive, anti-social kid that sits at the back of the class (this is mostly because I'll get to drawing something and sort of zonk out 'til it's done... and all my drawings take forever and then some ). Seriously, the difference between me with friends and me without friends is like night and day ! My go-to friend for that kind of stuff has to be Madison... she and I have different yet complimentary knowledge of all this wonderfully dorky crap, so we end up introducing all manner of new and interesting things to eachother . It has lead us to the point where we have all kinds of in-jokes that barely even make sense to us anymore... most people couldn't follow it if they tried .
I see what you're saying with Conrad... I guess ownership is kinda tricky when you get down to the technical aspects of it . I guess I was kind of under the impression that it all just depended on how much the person in question cares about that sort of thing . Like, I can imagine Worth not really caring much about his office as far as it being "his space", but Ples was a bit cagey right from the get-go... I dunno . I can just as easily see the reason being that Conrad is just a really wimpy vampire (I think it kinda seems like something that Tessa would do ).
Man, how's he even gonna do that ? Half the fun of Homestuck is the random bits of animation here and there, so... pop-up attachments? Random flip book sections? Or maybe he's waiting for them to develop paper-thin screens that can be bound into book form with a hard drive in the spine... that'd be cool !!! Until then, I think Homestuck would translate really well into a TV show !
Logically I shouldn't have as much manga as I do . Looking back, I'm not even sure how I did it other than to say that for a long time it was all I ever spent my money on . The time constraints on my internet access keep me from having time to watch anime online, so I pretty much only watch it with friends, and usually they're supplying it . Fullmetal Alchemist was the first anime I ever watched (while actually knowing that it was anime) too !! Although prior to that I had only seen stuff like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh! but I still didn't know that it was anime at that point . I didn't even get into stuff like Naruto or Death Note 'til much later. Um... but I prematurely gave up on Naruto (didn't go any farther than the end of the chunin exams), I never saw the Death Note anime, and I never got into One Piece at all . As for the ones I listed, I think my favorite is tied between Mushi-Shi and Gankutsuou. Mushi-Shi is amazing because it follows the manga almost to the word, and the manga was beautifully done. The way it's illustrated is all about mood and atmosphere, and both the manga and the anime pull it off really well. The manga looks like it was inked via brush painting, and even though the linework in the anime is pretty standard issue, the colors, characters, and music still gives off the same sort of vibe. As for Gankutsuou, that one just has this completely different method applied to it entirely. One of the coolest and most obvious things about it is the use of patterns. If, say, a character has a pattern or texture on their shirt, the pattern won't move with the character. It makes for a surprisingly awesome disconnect between the 3D form and the 2D rendering.
Sorry for going on and on about that but um... here are some images of both just to give you an idea :
[link] [link] [link]
[link] [link] [link]
Being an older sibling doesn't have all that many perks to be quite honest... when my brother and I were younger, I used to think that my parents liked him better than me 'cuz they kept saying that "I should know better at my age" . Still, I wouldn't mind it at all if my brother wouldn't act the way he does... he's kind of (really) passive-aggressive . He basically doesn't care about things if they aren't either his idea, or benefiting him in some way that he can see. I think he's also got the perpetual younger brother grudge against me... like he hates it if people try to compare him to me or whatever (all people ever notice is the ways that we're different anyway). Last year he was a freshman and I was a senior in the same school, but he didn't join the art club 'til this year even though everyone thought that he'd have fun with it... and I think it was because I was there . Neither of us play any sports though, and it's actually kind of funny how much my parents tried to get my brother into sports . They would've tried with me too, but I think they missed the boat on signing me up for stuff 'cuz I was the first kid in the family to go through... but it's probably for the best . Anyway, my brother was in soccer for a while during grade school (he was okay with practice but hated the games), and my mom tried to get him into tennis and failed miserably because he hated it so much . I just don't think he's a team player.
It took me forever to figure out that the item was switching back and forth between two different ones... at first I thought it was just a random substitution ! Either way, I would expect no less from the mind that brought us the syladex, "What pumpkin?", and an irrational hatred of Betty Crocker .
...and with that, I think I'm going to throw this monster of a comment your way and go read more Homestuck .
