Description To be totally honest, I was always kind of depressed about one thing in the Hetalia series:
Germany never showed any sign of seeing magical creatures as England.

Why?

Some facts:
Germany has at least the same ammount of magical stuff that is running around.
Dragons, Kings, Princesses, speaking animals or trees, witches, fairies, unicorns, magical water or plants or fruits or or or, lots of (cursed) treasures, everything.
He has such a awful lot of creatures creeping around his house, that he even wrote a lot of stories about them: Grimm Fairytales.
And even without his fairytales, he got a big load of legends, like the Nibelung legend where a guy became invincible by killing a dragon near Bonn and bathing in his blood, but he was still later killed, because a leaf had covered a part on his shoulders. Also various legends about dwarfs in the mountains, witches in forests and more. The times had been more dangerous back then when he had been young, people didn't even dare to leave the house at night or enter the forest without someone else, because it was so dangerous with all those things creeping around.

Some more facts:
There is just one thing that Enlgand should be wary about, in case he visits Germany and meets his creatures:
His creatures are - in comparison to englands creatures - mostly evil to the core and will try to hurt him.
As an example:
Even the unicorns in Germany are highly aggressive and dangerous (see The Valiant Little Tailor), some legends even call them man eaters. So trying to befriend one might end up with you loosing a arm or two.

In England, you drink unicorn blood and life forever.
In Germany, UNICORNS DRINK YOU!!

Hihihihi, the unicorn comment.
And most of the Grims fairytales are quite brutal.
Once my friends and I talked about them and realized...That's some fucked up shit....And we read that to our children.

That would certainly make any trip to Europe a deathly adventure for England.

As soon as I saw this, I thought of the Brothers Grimm! You're so right about Germany's apparent inability to see these creatures. Maybe he doesn't believe anymore? Which, as you've said, is sort of depressing.

When I saw the film "The Brothers Grimm" starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger, I was shocked that there were factual errors, especially involving fairy tales, because the director Terry Gilliam was probably too lazy to do research!

Um, but then again, it is a hollywood movie.
Disneys "The little mermaid" and the original fairy tale also have close to nothing in common except for a mermaid that becomes human because she loves a human prince.
So what you call "error" might have been "creative freedom" xD

May be Prussia is the one who sees them?

MangaEngel In reply to TheAnimangaGirl [2013-05-13 01:28:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm not...sure.
I mean, the brothers Grimm lived in Prussia towards the end, but as teachers at a university. They had written the fairytales down before that. To be honest, I don't even know, if prussian people were interested in legends and fairytales...
But I looked through some literature and can at least say, that Prussia didn't really have a lot of legends, so I guess, those people were more uninterested?

MangaEngel In reply to Iadhara [2013-05-11 18:22:15 +0000 UTC]

MangaEngel In reply to xXShadowfan2Xx [2013-05-11 16:27:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, because I'm bad at rabbits and I took a sample and painted after it (so it looks pretty much like him).
But it is supposed to stand for the speaking animals of german fairytales (like in "The Hare and the Hedgehog"). It just makes it even more obvious, that England and Germany share their tick for mystical creatues anyway to take a few people and creatures from England and set them out of context.
Because - to be honest - the king is made after a picture of King Arthur and the archer on the right is made after how I image Robin Hood
But they could all be legal german fairytale protagonists.

Uh ja stimmt, du bist ja gerade in Japan!

mach weiter so

MangaEngel In reply to Creative-Caro [2013-05-13 01:35:56 +0000 UTC]

Creative-Caro In reply to MangaEngel [2013-05-13 14:44:50 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MangaEngel In reply to Creative-Caro [2013-05-13 14:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Digital.

Very good point you've made here-Oh, is that a werewolf!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MangaEngel In reply to Yubitsume [2013-05-11 06:52:21 +0000 UTC]

No, that is actually just the "big bad wolf".
The german fairytales are full with bad wolfs (I would go as far as say that every third fairytale has a wolf in it) and it is a very famous and popular creature of german fairytales.
But it COULD be a werewolf, too, I guess.
There are a few legends and stories of werewolfs in Germany, originating around 1600, like the "Wolf of Ansbach". BUT german werewolf stories aren't that well-known and there are only a few legends about them. I could even imagine, that most germans think, the werewolf is a being that came from Transylvania or something (it came from Germania and was adapted by ancient Greece, later went north to Sweden and Germany, at least to what I can find about that topic).
Sooooo...
I would rather like that creature being seen as the big bad wolf instead of a werewolf ^__^

And I would have found it hilarious, if there would be hints that Germany sees magical stuff, too, but is actually so smart and hides it to not look like a mad person (like England *cough*).
Maybe slipping once and discussing/fighting with one of his monsters and then trying to explain in a flustered-nervous way to the confused Italy, what he had been doing just a second ago.
I would die from laughter :'D
