Description My first hockey digital portrait! I've been wanting to paint Sidney Crosby digitally for a while but after meeting fellow sporty artist Que-Ink, I finally got inspired enough to get to work and stop procrastinating xD
I really want to thank Que-Ink for her friendliness and help as I get settled here at DA^^ Check out Que's work: [link]

Sid took me 10-12 hours to do over the course of 1.5 days on paint program SAI. The file was much bigger but I resized it to post. I used a main ref photo ([link] ) and also a couple other pics for detail reference. The background bokeh is a texture from google.
I know I should spend more time on realism work like this but my style and patience are still developing ^^" A lot of it is still experimenting with digital brushes xD The helmet straps were a pain but I might go back later to fix 'em up more.

This is insanely good! The face coloring is gorgeous but most of all I also love the way you did his helmet. Must be difficult to shade it so with such subtle differences in shades. And amazing you got all that from such a tiny reference photo (next time take a bigger one, it makes it easier ).

Haha yes we could!
I always set google image search to 'images size only larger than 800 px'. That way I will not encounter small drawing that do inspire me but are too small to use (at least in my opinion too small) ^^

For poses i guess small pictures are ok, but for colors it's going to be more difficult

OH MY GOD, JEN! It's incredible, it's mindblowing, it could be a photograph! I actually thought it was when I saw the thumbnail! The level of detail is just awesome, and as usual, it's the tiniest details that make this really, really special; the texture of stitching in the numbers on his shirt; the shadows of facial hair and cloudiness of the gumgard over his teeth. The shine and texture of the light reflecting from his nose and bottom lip.

This is beyond awesome. This is beyond anything I can actually put into words. You are so insanely talented and I really aspire to be as amazing as you are one day

OH if u do have advice, don't be afraid to tell me cuz I'll take it nice I really am happy about the compliments u gave me! Yeah I usually put most of my effort into the faces x)
Oh u can!! Just keep drawing as much as u can and keep working... I've been drawing for about 2 years now and I used to only do anime/cartoon work. But after drawing so much and using ref pics and all, it gets easier to pick up any form of style or art ^_^ So I totally believe u can do anything u want

This is incredible! I love it! Realism sure takes it's time, but slowly and with much practice you'll get there. This a fantastic start! I gotta agree with Que, the detail in the jersey. Gotta love the eyes. haha.

I haven't seen this good of a portrait of Sid the Kid in a while. well done.
