I found a song the other day by The Darkness called "Black Shuck". I looked up the lyrics (because I couldn't understand half of the words), and discovered that the song was based on an event in English legend. I had heard of phantom dogs in the British Isles before, but this was the first time that I had heard them called the black shuck. According to the information I then looked up, the black shuck is a huge black dog with either no head or one large eye. The song refers to a story about how the black shuck attacked these two churches, killing people simply by passing them by. [link] [link] here are some pictures of the door of one of the churches. Shuck has many a story about him, some say he kills those he sees, others say he helps weary travellers, There's loads of different variations of him as well, no head or one eye are new to me XD
The story I heard was that he was a captains dog on a ship, the ship got torn apart in a storm and the wreckage and the dog got washed ashore on the eastern coast of England, ever singe then the dog known as black shuck roams the east of England [where I'm from] trying to find his master, It's a cool legend nonetheless!
