Locke and Key is by FAR my favorite graphic novel, and one of my favorite keys is this key, comment if you know what it is and guess what I would do with it.critique please.

Alright so lets see, im really bad with saying what i need to in words rather than doing myself, but i'll be glad to give my input on this!
For starters, let me say what i like about this. What appeals to me most are the colors that you've decided to use for this piece. They all compliment and blend very well with one another, and the background; simple yet interesting, isnt too distracting nor boring. your linework is really smooth and... i must admit really nice. The variations in thickness in your linework makes it look really professional to me! I like it. The amount of detail that you put in the key is extraordinary, and your shading is really smooth and you have a nice painted style of doing so, but there seems to be a problem with placement.. which leads me to some things that i think need tweaking.
Although the style of shading is great, and you do have a sense of not just ' black and white' for highlights and such, the placement of where the shading goes could use some work. i cant tell where the light source is on this piece, the shading highlights seem to be everywhere on this character. I think drawing a sketchy lamp somewhere to help you with shading will improve this picture greatly. Shading is more of something to see rather than explain. Also, the way this character's head fits into the image seems.. forced to me? i would suggest trying to draw a bit more of the character's neck/shoulders, just to see how it looks, because the image seems off-balance. The eye markings on this character seem disproportional, ( i noticed how on the left eyebrow, the brown goes over the black, and on the right, it goes through. ) and the left side of the head seems to be more far-out than the right ( if that makes sense?) I suggest trying to bring that part of the head closer to the eye.

First thing I notice though is that there is something messy about it. there is a lot of detail in it, but the watcher doesn't really know where to look. There is not much contrast between the key and the characters head. So it almost ends up blending into the characters head and makes it messy. You could in that case give the key a more "metal look" so it's stand out a bit in material. Or give it ether more or less value depending on the effect you want.
I would also want to point out that the picture often gets more appealing if the characters head is not completely center. It's more relaxing for the viewers eyes if you would have leaved a little more space. For example I would have expanded the backgound a little to the left (placing the character a little more to the right). Now lets see...First critique ever so I'll try to make this as...uhhh...easy as i can, I love the style and the shading on this. The colours matches with one another. A legit poster-ish feel to it too. i don't do a lot of critiques, but i can try a short one ;_;
i like the lighting here, it kinda sets the mood and makes me interested in finding out more about the background/meaning behind this drawing. the character in it is well-drawn, and the clock in the eye is a nice touch.
as for what you could improve on, i agree with some of the other comments saying how the contrast and composition could be different.

the clock is a sentimental part of my characters design :3 she's always had it, and the key is from a comic called Locke and Key >:3 it has magic powers. All the Locke keys do.

Well first off I'd like to say I quite like your shading style here, especially the fur effects on the ears and hair..though one thing i might suggest is sticking to a consistant light source... here it seems to be coming from no point in particular with light falling on both sides of the face as well as the tips on the hair.. It can be hard to get right but it's something to think about
The other thing is from first look it's hard for me to identify what species this creature is, i discovered by looking at some of your othe pics that she is a weasel? Weasels have much smaller noses and ears.. Of course that can be chalked down to style and there's no problem with that
Overall, a nice picture.. well done

Hm I don't know the character so it is hard for me to critique the design. The first impression I get is that it is maybe a little too "wild". A lot of things are going on at once. I do like some of the details such as the clock eye
I think you should improve the composition by showing us more space below. Something like a classical torso portrait would work just fine. Cutting off so near to chin and showing only one finger is never a good idea.
