Well there is a lot that went into the backgrounds... but perhaps this helps. For the grass, I made about five or six different blades of grass, not touching one another, and then I used the dodge and burn too to give then a range of tones, then I copy pasted and rearranged these into groups and clusters, merged those and then dodged and burned the cluster a bit and then copy pasted the clusters and so on until I had all the grass I wanted. I used a similar technique for the dandelion petals. as for the background leaves, I used partially transparent dots and then put a paint daub filter over the result of dotting a bunch. as for the lighting, well that is just a matter of keeping all the layers separate so that when I draw the straight lines (followed by a motion blur) I can place them at different layers creating a 3d effect. Did that help? If you have a more specific question, I can probably clarify more. Thank you very much

wow, thanks!that will do for now till i had time to try it out, as in, when i finish the linearts for that particular commission. this will be really helpful as i am not especially skilled with using the layers and tools interactively---i usually end up just using the brush tool...and that sure took me a long time!lol.

Why was it the first thought to hit me when I saw this was Calvin and Hobbes. Come to think of it, your Ko-chan and stuffed tiger pic did the same thing to me . Kojisai and Hobbes... has a nice sound to it.^^ Very pretty piece, Goose.^^

Yes, I designed him a long time ago to be the girly looking character... because in spite of myself, I like the look. (might be because my boyfriend is effeminate looking) and then to balance it out, I gave him a complex about his girlish looks (easily fixed by a hair cut he refuses to get because to him, long hair symbolizes strength) I wasn't sure how much detail to put into the hair since I did the fur differently... but that much detail in the fur would have looked odd... and that is my favorite way of doing hair, so I decided to see how the two look together... I appreciate your feedback on that... because if people think the level of detail looks off, I will remember to match styles more in future images. I personally like the contrast of the vibrant hair... but that could just be me, so it is also nice to hear how other people feel about it.
I did tone down the eyes. But I didn't do it all the way because I still wanted it to look like the tigers eye was reflecting light the way cat eyes do. All in all, I agree with you, a 4 out of 5, and thanks for the feedback. This is a first in trying out new techniques I plan on using a lot, so getting strong feedback now really helps me for more work in 2010.
