Description Some semi-paintings from this afternoon. Trying to break some bad art-habits.

All colours are hues or shades of red or orange. That is not a blue in the second bust but a very desaturated orange! Same goes for the "black".

For a personal project.

PS CS5.

Yes and no, these three are for the same character as opposed to species! I should have clarified - Mogura is a character - her race is the Motherkin, which is composed of several species and sub-species. Most look very similar to the third head, while others are drastically different like the first two, and even more wild than that.

ah, i understand now. are the Motherkin just few or the many in The internal opera?

It really depends, as the Infernal Opera is composed of several story-arcs and chapters. They are a driving force in some, while more or less unimportant in others. Anything to do with Gluttony has either them or their cousins the Nigirm (related by divergent evolution, Nigrim originated as Motherkin) as a main part of the cast. They are a very important part of Hell's history though, but not many outside of Gluttony (or even in it) are aware of that - mostly because of ancient war propaganda.

Hopefully I'm not confusing you!

just a wee bit with the propaganda other than that i got you. I guess because i do not know much about the world of Infernal Opera. Gluttony is an area of Hell, where your creatures live? Like a circle or hell? I've read in Divine Comedy that the Dante had 9 circles/layers of hell. Just trying to to think of what you mean lol

Haha, yeah it'd probably help if I explained it more. Hell has Levels in IO, similar to Dante's Divine Comedy, but not quite. Each Level is enclosed and "stacked" over one another in the shape of an inverted triangle, with smaller Levels sitting below larger ones. There are ten Levels as opposed to only nine. Gluttony is the second Level.

As for the propaganda, Gluttony was considered uncharted territory for the majority of Hell's history, and a particularly ambitious Demon named Yomesh went to go and conquer it for themselves, since Gluttony wasn't known to have a ruler or Lord of Sin. Gluttony was already inhabited by Motherkin however, whom nobody knew about. Yomesh was surprised to see Demon Folk already there and ruling Gluttony, but he still wanted a seat of power, so he waged a huge war to get rid of them before anybody caught wind of his discovery (essentially trying to commit mass genocide on several intelligent species for the sake of rulership that didn't belong to him). Throughout his campaign he released claims that the Motherkin were mere voracious animals and not really Demon Folk at all, to justify his actions.

Ah! It all makes sense now!
Wow, so aren't the Motherkin fighting back against Yomesh? I wonder how they're dealing with all of this, random megalomaniac Demon strolling in and stirring up mass genocides. Yomesh is a higher demon so he allowed to try and take over Gluttony even though it technically had a ruler the whole time?

Oh the Motherkin fought back alright, the war lasted for several generations (essentially hundreds if not thousands of years), but Yomesh managed to gain the upper hand by coming in at a time when Gluttony was at peace after continuous struggles of its own, with the species changing or going into hibernation. For the sake of clarification, the Motherkin operate mostly as a hive-mind with smaller members of the species answering to Matriarchs in a way similar to ants. Older species are entirely subservient to Matriarchs, while newer species are more independent of the Matriarch, but still answer to her. Yomesh invades at a point where the newer species are taking hold, so there is less coordination amongst the Motherkin and the older species don't notice what's happening until it's almost too late. At the time, several Matriarchs have gone into hibernation - they aren't prepared for new conflicts. Yomesh ultimately won his war out of blind luck and foul play amongst his own recruits; he turned against several of the Demons and Angels who helped him so that word of what he was doing never left Gluttony. Once he gained the Crown of Gluttons he enslaved what was left of the Motherkin, still touting the idea that they were animals and not people.

The Motherkin didn't make any attempts to call out for help from the other Levels since as far as they knew, there was nothing else outside of Gluttony. The war ended up being both long and complicated, Yomesh's campaign spanned nearly all of Gluttony.

Yomesh was permitted to try and conquer Gluttony because no one had ever visited the Level and returned with news that anything lived there. Gluttony is the harshest of the Levels. Nothing will take root there and there isn't much for fauna, either. Any exploratory parties never got far, or returned at all. If it had been known that Gluttony already had a ruler, Yomesh would have been stopped in his tracks and instead negotiations for trade and travel would have been made by the other Rulers of Sin.

I could go into ridiculous detail, there is so much that happens that trying to summarise it is like trying to herd cats, haha.

HAHA, no i know how it is about that! but thanks for tryign to explain it to me anyways
Yomesh has got some good luck on his hands getting away with all that.
And these planes much be extremely vast, if the Motherkin had no idea of the 'outside' either.

You wouldn't want to be within ten miles of any of them sneezing. Everything within the blast radius would be painted green.

Thank you!

Steeple noses! They turned out a lot better than I thought they would.

Thanks a lot! Lighting is still really difficult to work with, but it is becoming less and less about actively reminding myself about what to think about than it is "light is striking here".
