WHOOG.Sorry the file isn't larger - i saved over the highres by accident halfway through and had to paint on a dodgy 600-pixel canvas. Argh.
WELL.
As always, I wanted Kit's costume to reflect her SDL persona; and I realised that to the civilised Japanese, a tall, stinking, aggressive foreigner would be very much a barbarian in their society. And that gave rise to this.
Most of the costume is homage to Conan, but one or two touches make this a more 'kittish' outfit. Fantasy settings tend to be clustered with strange and rare creatures. Kit helps to keep them rare, although I'm told dragon meat tastes better well done...
Many thanks go to *Coelasquid , who provided me with enough Arnie images to wallpaper my house, and pointed out the role of anatomy in any image.

And I agree with all the praise you've been getting! I think your art is just growing in leaps and bounds. I really love this pic- the colors and just the layout of it especially. I think I agree with Squidders, that you don't really need the lines on your pieces? I think, though, it can be easily fixed if you just color your linework a shade even closer to what it overlays, or if you just stroke a semi-transparent layer lightly above the lines, just to make them fade back. Because I for one, love the kinda sketchy and free quality that lines with paintings give- I just don't think they need to be quite as dark :3

Really awesome job, I think you totally stepped up you game on this one, and I hope that it works out in the contest for you.
I think a few little fixes that I would bare in mind for future reference, her head seems a little big compared to the rest of her body. It might be partially due to the volume of her hair making it seem bigger than it really is, but it seems like her head and neck are possibly as long and wide across as her torso is. This is actually a fairy easy fix in a painting, even a one layer one. If you select and transform tool the part of the painting that you want to resize, you can make a layer on top and just try to match the seams to the rest of the painting.
I know it's hard to do this now, but you could try to do the same match-on-a-new-layer think if you wanted to mess with it some more (Which I'm sure you don't 
For the background, the draperies turned out awesome, but the brown space behind her seems kind of ambiguous. I feel like it should have a texture of stones or fur or leather or anything like that to give some impression of where she is. WTP already mentioned the skulls, so I'll leave them alone.
Other than that, ace job! The rate at which you better yourself is totally making me feel inadequate. Gotta get off my ass and get cracking to keep up!

Yeah, the head thing was one i noticed - it was a little off-kilter to the perspective of the rest of her body.
I wanted the BG to be a bit unfinished and washed out, to bring emphasis to the character, but i guess that didn't work as well. Ah well.
Next time, I'm going in lineless, proportions blazing and textures galore!

*throws a poke-ball* Once again, a masterful work of skill. You are able to catch an amazing ammount of detail in such a small space and yet it doesn't look overdone or cluttered with strokes. The one thing that seemed strange to me is that her face doesn't look like Kit's not to me. . . :/ Perhaps it's just the angle? I'm not sure. Anatomy and redrawing someone's face the same way twice is -not- my strong point. *laugh* Overall, Wonderful piece!

Thanks! Yeah - I'd actually tried drawing the face from a reference, as I wanted a more realistic image. I used Patti Smith as a model, as she was the closest thing i could find to Kit's facial structure (and fashion sense).

bruddy sprek-takular...she looks brutal but assuredly at-ease, as if she'd lop off a dozen heads then break for a nice sammich (or leg of boar).
I really like the soft palette and lines at work here. I think a more intense line and harsher lighting would have lent more grit to the piece, but I can't argue with what's pretty. The draperies behind her are EXCELLENTLY done.

Yeah - some of my grander painting plans for this one were ruined when i accidentally downsised and saved over the file. But it WAS an experimental piece, so hopefully next time I can tackle the image head on and unflattened.
