As well all no by now, Jacob Marley was Scrooge's business partner and his only friend. When he died on Christmas Eve 1836 his ghost was never allowed to rest, bearing strong chains and weights made by his years of greed and cruelty... Until 7 years later his ghost appears to Ebeneezer Scrooge to warn him that he must change his ways soon for after 7 years his chains would be a greater burden after death... a chance of hope
