He figured out that if he can endure a few seconds of the kids trying to "wake him up" and if he remains "asleep", they eventually lose interested in him and go away. One smart cat!

Yep. Interesting that my Mom and I figured out his little game. We just waited until each wave of kids left, and he'd crack his eyes open just a bit to check to see if the coast was clear. And since my Mom and I weren't bothering him, he didn't feel the need to play opossum with us.
