I did this one so long ago but have never posed it. Something unusual for me is to creating something so colorful : D Well, it's kinda fun to go out of your 'normal things'.Personally I really enjoyed to play with bright saturated colors.Β Β

I know it has enough changes to legally stand as it's own image... but did you did it yourself or were you asked to use the pose as a base?

Actually I worked on splash arts and know something on copyright as an artist. You can't copyright the pose, it isn't so called 'original property' as well as you can't copyright the composition. If that was the case no artist ever could use golden ratio or any kind of composition rules , or there would be only 1 painting with sitting/standing/running character. Which isn't the case obviously

I did not accuse you and I even admitted that the image can stand on it's own so there is no need to explain or protect yourself

My point: Having accepted jobs where the client gives you "references" with briefs like "use the image but change/add to the outfit/ colors" I know that such things happen on a regular basis. Myself I refrain to post them anywhere, job done got paid and that's it. Just wondering how others see it or if I am too idealistic in my thinking

And answering your question - it was my decision ,this is is just a fan art and not a commercial work .
Indeed there are clients who wants to use artwork in commercial use and they give you references to use. Then you as an artist have an obligation to step in and use your skills to change things so it won't resemble someone else's property. There is nothing wrong with using reference as long as you try to make something original. Β If you want to disclose your references that's fine. However you don't need to disclose everything like from where you get the pose. Everyone use SenshiStock here on DA , while being hush hush about that... But it's all fine tho
