Description Don't know exactly what to say. I felt many different things while painting this, none of them easy to put into words. It could be all losely put in short saying that though I'm environmentally aware, I'm still quite apathetic about it and sometimes I feel like a hypocrite when talking about pollution and the such. I feel we need a bit less tears and a bit more action... Anyway, today a nuclear power-plant here in Spain has been definitely closed so we can celebrate that at least ^^

I agree in that it can be seen as an image of hope; I'm a hypocrite in that I hate pollution and what's being done to the earth, but don't do anything about it. This is a beautiful piece of art, one which I'll be happy to add to my favorites. As a reminder to be more aware and that even little things can contribute to helping out. Thank you for this.

I didn't intend to make people think or react, it was more of a statement of my own feelings and thoughts, but I'm happy that other people can relate to this and get the message. ^^

That is adorable... But I am not sure if I agree with your view on closing Nuclear reactors. Compared to Coal and Oil, it is a very damn clean source of energy, and a normal (as in not damaged) nuclear power plant happens to produce less radiation than a coal power point. Plus you get most radiation from the sun already.

i see i see. Yeah well, the old ones are usually worse than the new ones. Technology wasn't that good back then.

And, no, it wasn't a normal power plant, it was pretty old and had serious safety problems. The owner was going to close it in two years but it had to be closed sooner because it was starting to be a serious hazard for the nearby inhabitants.

Beautiful. I feel great that you've made this piece really. It explains your power plant fiascal.

The outerlying cities covered in this yellow-ish layer and darkens as it gets deeper and deeper. The clouds of smoke coming into focus as well as the girl who's crying for a creature who suffers against that smoke. Wonderful piece.

i do hate to get *political*, but you say the closure of a nuclear plant is a good thing?

yes, from one point of view it is; there is less risk of meltdown and radioactive contamination; but nuclear power is one of the few sustainable, (and considered to be renewable) fuels that does not produce such awful gasses as fossil fuels do...

arr... damnn my parents for being hippies; ith theur fault; it always is...

i do like the painting though, it is well presented, and highlights an issue that seems to have slipped to the back of people's concious of late, it gives it a voice and a heart...

That particular power plant was 38 years old and had serious safety issues, it's owner was going to close it down anyway in two years, but the safety problems got so bad that it had to be closed sooner.
If I could choose I'd go for renewable energy sources anyway, but the government doesn't want to invest time and money in developing them properly.

eh, advanced critique encouraged? well, the bird is the only thing in here that's really got an excellent amount of texture + contrast... most other things don't quite match up. i'd say the girl could use a good dose of this, if you're really looking to improve it

This is so beautiful, and yet so sad. I work in a factory building cars, and we have a recording that's very loud that scares away all the birds (to discourage nesting in the roof so they don't get hurt). I love birds and think they're so much fun to watch. I hate seeing things like this happen, but...they really do. I think it was wonderful of you to paint this- it looks great, and conveys a message that needs to be out there.

I've got to fav this, as it has so much heart in it.
