I came up with this approach when I got a commission to copy a photograph where black was dominating the image. The commissioner wanted me to do it in pointillism so instead of going from white to black (something that would've been so time demanding) I rather worked it from the light to shadows.

Well, excellent result and thought process. It does make sense to try and achieve the same (if not better/different) result by going about it the other way around, thus saving time.
