Well, I can kind of understand. There are people on the roads who shouldn't be trusted to drive a car, let alone a tank lol.

Its mainly because EU pacifist that want to "protect us from war" but thats again politics. I know one person that owns few working tanks for historical recreations... Of course EU dont like it and rather want us sitting behind computers and playing that bullshit called Battlefield I...

I'm pretty much indifferent. Not many games catch my interest right now.

Not a huge fan of BF1, to me they way it plays and feels is too much like BF4, just with some world war 1 skins. Its still an alright game though.

Sorry if im killing the discussion, have to get this out of my head...

I have strange feeling, that games are not continuing in evolution. Last games that came are nothing aginst their predacessors and i maybe know why. I talked with one guy that said its becuase short time and money and its basically true. When graphics was simple, there were only limits of space, today we are limited by too difficult graphics, where you cant just change textures and make all models for game. Same is gamplay, Battlefield 2 had commander mode, lot of classes, mods and it was popular game by gamers. Battlefield I and 4 are just shadows because they are cutted... They are not bad but i would await more when they are modern...Β

And thats second part, money and time. Times when game were released on CD in time and needed just one or two patches are gone... Game developing is harder and cost more, so its nearly impossible to make a game without massive patching after release. I think, that studios that makes early acess games are way more safe, because they are not pulled by time. Of course it takes forever becuase lack of money but look at No mans sky, that game failed, because it had to be early acess game first, but sony in vision of easy way to get money made commercial campaign and they were trapped in time and when wanted to get some extra time, they gained threat mails from angry fans... But Minecraft took almost four years until get from Alpha to official release and it was success, that is popular wordwide. I see that some old good gaming series are ruined to this fact, becuase they make their newest game in old style with tasty trailer and they fail horribly in first look when everyone awaits done game, and smaller or independent studios taking over with same game idea, that is made slow but sure. Roller coaster tycoon - Planet coaster, Sim city - Cities skylines...Β

At last is of course changes in community, politics and basic things... Bf 1 is made way easy like for kids, community is created by them too and i smell some political bulshit in characters and story. Its not autherntic, accurate and even its 18+, they said "kids would finally learn about WW 1"... Dont want to meet those kids...

The biggest culprits are the big companies (COD and BF) basically releasing a very similar game every year with minimal work to try and make money. Also tack on a whole bunch of pre-order DLC for a quick cash grab.

Regarding patches, I think a lot of that has to do with how easy it is to patch games now. Devs would rather push buggy games out on the release date because everyone can just download the patch afterwards (*ahem Ubi Soft). i remember back in the old days downloading patches for games was a massive pain.

The success of early access games depend entirely on how good/bad the developer is. Its good that smaller devs can make money before the game 'releases', which can potentially help improve the game. However, because the devs get paid before the game gets released, there is less incentive to make sure they put in effort. There's also those cases where dodgy devs have just taken peoples money and then pulled the plug. Planet Coaster is a recent example of a decent dev using an early access model (though I don't play that game), they constantly reacted to feedback and changed/added things in the game, and most of its player base is very happy with it.

And yes, it also bothers me when I see political agendas being pushed in games, regardless of what point of view they hold.

GeorgeEmpy In reply to ManusExtraordinarii [2016-12-29 13:08:21 +0000 UTC]

True. Big companies are making copypastes of games and yes it leads to fails like in case of RCTycoon and its independent sucessor.Β

The early aces games are usually free of this, i mean. I found more tries to make better, modern and fuller game than big company ones by those people but its true, that without money and commercial campaign no one hear about this game... But I tried to figure out, how commercial campaign affects quality of game. Stonehearth is great game but unknown, that means slow development... No mans sky was known, but thanks to it failed, becuase people awaited full game from big company. In this task i think the Minecraft did best because it developed and the commercial campagins started when the game was done, but we all know that this game was basically spread by itself... So basically, i think that all what is needed is to make commercial but not overpowered trailer full of non game CGI that only creates base for disappointment from real content, but really after the game is tested in early alpha and everything is added, wich needs enough time and money reserve for commercials... I think, that if they would made No mans sky as early alpha for half of price without commercials, than fixed all and than started campagin, they would get more satisfied fans and more money from overwise sells... Or maybe not? I dont know, but its still better idea than what they actually did...

The last thing how you said its communication with player comunity, that is able to improve games with mods. For the reason, BF2 Forgotten hope of Project reality are almost standalone games made only by players. So why BF 1 rejected all mods? Its because they dont want people to see truth, that most used weapons of WW 1 were bolt actiom rifles?Β

Most games these days disable mods because devs see mods as competition for paid DLC.

A good example is Rome 2 TW. SEGA (which is infamous for bullcrap DLC content and pre-order shenanigans) did not want to let the game be moddable, because they were trying to sell factions, countries and units as DLC. With mods, modders are easily able to make better content than official DLC stuff, so of course no one would want to waste money on such DLCs when mods can provide something better for free. Eventually the devs gave in and released mod tools.

DLCs are the worst things for games... I understand feeling to have something more but games are about skill, not about how rich you are...Β

Biggest irony, DCS world is almost empty F2P, all DLCs costs 500 Euro...
