Description Advise and suggestions requested.

This is one of my preferred candle holders... orange, of course. I was performing a test on shutter speed and such, and I took several shots. This is the one I liked the best.

I know. It is breaking the rule of thirds and I could have cropped it. When I took it, I didn't know about the rule nor did I know that I would be able to crop something some day

If I crop it, I lose the reflection on the table... Or, I could crop it square, respecting the rule of thirds... but obtaining a square photo.

So I just decided to upload it as is and listen to those with more experience. If and when you have time, let me know what you would suggest. I will be very thankful !

:hugs:
M.

Wonderful! Reminds me of the cinematography work of Roger Deakins, beautiful warm orange colours and reflections. Great shot

No clue who Roger Deakins is... but it's certainly
a compliment!
I will Google him so I learn and find out!

Suggestions requested...?
Yes, Ma'm!

Beautiful light and colors. I would just put the candle more in the buttom left corner and leave some more black space above and to the right.

And... don't stick to "rules" too much. It's nice to have some kind of guideline in the beginning, but more important in my opinion is the feeling for a balanced and beautiful composition.

Yess, Maยดm ! Requested and appreciated !

Indeed, I agree. I took this one long ago and in a way that
impedes me to change anything. Even cropping !
So I will shoot it again (once I buy apples and tangerines...
or some fruit !).

I wanted more black space above... but the photo ENDED there
... a shame.

Thank you for your advices, Blue !!! I will absolutely keep
them in mind !

The photo ended there? ... Happened to me before as well.
I'm looking forward seeing the new one.

Hahaha! Indeed. It did. It was my first test with
new settings for darker ambients... I focused
too much on the settings... and too little on the
composition.

Next one will be better. I learn, I learn

Yes, I love this light !! Added the fruits to give more interest to the composition

I will improve this one sometime next year !

A beautiful thing. I guess it is a bit skewed because of the camera lens position. I'd suggest to photograph it in the very center and then crop out the composition however you like.

Manwathiell In reply to Daywish [2008-12-08 17:44:18 +0000 UTC]

I absolutely will! I missed not being able to crop it the way Iยดd like to due to the position of it...

It's a nice shot , I 'd though prefer more black above the candle . I think about the third rule -which 's really boring - you mustn't always focus on it , because what is beautiful is beautiful , and I don't mind cropping the photo in any shape , you could see in my gallery , vertically/horizontally longer photos in the end it is all about a matter of how beautiful you can see it.
I'd shoot from the bottom , I think it will give it a stronger feeling.

I know !!! This was a shot taken some time ago. I was learning shutter speed setting and I didnยดt focus much on anything else.

I plan to do more shots of this same candle holder in the future, I also have another which is very, very beautiful. Proyects for 2009, I guess

Thanks for your insightful comments, Rabea !

Hmmm... you like inciense sticks... you like candles...
I guess your home must be very cool !
The atmosphere created by well placed candles is so warm
and beautiful !!

What is your favorite metal among copper and bronze ?
I am curious. Maybe we have another taste match there!

Smiles,
M.

thank you , yeah and I like choosing different smells give different moods and feelings like music and art , so I used to lit cinnamon candle in the morning after taking a shower , opening the window and making breakfast , could put some classics too x3.

I don't really know , I think I like silver metals more than golden ones.

Manwathiell In reply to HaruNiji [2008-12-13 00:15:24 +0000 UTC]

I actually like copper a lot, but I also have bronze at
home. My house has white walls and the rest is all in
colors that rainbow from dark brown to white (browns, oranges, beiges). Difficult to describe (but silvers dont match).
I find the oranges VERY energizing

I light cinnamon candles at the office ! Specially when the days are gray...

Someday, when my house is in order, I will take a photo of it and add it to my scraps (I'll let you know). It is VERY small, but cozy !!

Yeah , that sounds cool well these colors give a warm atmosphere (specially with orange/yellow/warm light ) , yeah silver will be an intruder , for me maybe because I lived in a very hot country and so I loved blue and silver

The rule of thirds is objective. If you need to draw attention to more than one part of the picture the rule applies just fine. In this case, it's good the way it is. I wouldn't change a thing.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Manwathiell In reply to docbevo [2008-12-07 22:50:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you !!
I learned about that rule really short ago.
I dont want to be obsessed by it, of course.
But I thought I'd ask for suggestions to see what
others would do with it
