If it weren't for him, China would still be a 3rd world country by now and a complete clusterfuck.
Anyone comparing him to the likes of Hitler makes me want to punch puppies.

Come punch me then.
Liberals, Conservatives, Maoists, Nazis and Green Maggots, they all drag me in a hysteria and make me want to crush 'em all and build my wonderful Kaiserreich!
Centrism and Monarchism above all!

Because the Chinese dynasties and a completely fractured country in constant war with itself would've been clearly better. Not.
Yes, the man was ruthless, yes many died, but you don't make the mother of all omelettes without cracking eggs.
If it weren't for him, China wouldn't be the global superpower it is now. Period.

Then all credits go to Deng Xiaoping, he actually did do something very very useful to the economy of Mainland China. While all Mao did was pointless stupid activities and inner fightings that broke the economy and society of China. He even refused Japanese war reparations too.
If you really want a republican system, go with the Kuomintang and let China be divided like Korea OTL. Just look at the Republic of China on Taiwan, it prospers to this day, and even after having their rightful China seat being taken away in 1971, they still have a prospering and influential Taiwan.
The Kuomintang couldn't develop China well because of all the warlords and of course the cunning Commies that made a lot of troubles. But look at the growth rate during the Peiyang and Kuomintang period, still a lot higher than Mao's reign. Well soon after ww2, there was a peace offer but Mao refused and insisted to wage a civil war on the war torn lands of China when they just endured Japanese occupation.

Right, because a divided korea is exactly what we would still want today.

At least South Korea has become a prosperous and free enough country in the end.
I mean, sure South Korea has its own faults, but compare it to North Korea and you'll see the difference. I would rather see China divided into two halves, rather than having 95% of China suffering massacres and crazed revolutionary activities which did nothing good but fuck up the country, to today's huge social problems, corruptions and pollutions...

Da-Commander In reply to Tikiyachod [2018-02-23 16:39:19 +0000 UTC]
Sure, because China is the only country with corruption and pollution problems.
Also, north korea got the shit end of the stick when the soviet union collapsed. If the U.S could have minded its own business, it probably would be fairing much better.
Today we're bashing them down constantly for possessions of nuclear arsenal, which is completely hypocritical. We sanction them to oblivion, then point at how terrible life is out there compared to south korea... which would collapse the second we would decide embargo them as well.

Well of course many other countries have such problems too, but within Communist Party systems, they are much worse compared to other countries. There, the elite cronies within the Communist Party could get away with massive corruptions, because they also happen to own the judicial system too.
Well, North Korea threatened to nuke people, and well North Korea sucks about basic human rights so that's reasonable and okay for me

You speak as if communism is the only kind of system that can breed corruption, America is anything BUT communist, yet look at how much lobbyism there is, cronies as you say and what have you. Corruption is not a concept mutually exclusive to communism.
Any country in North Korea's position would have resolved to threats. Threats which would not have been necessary if we would've left them alone in the first place.
Basic human rights are down in the shitter because they can't afford them any longer.
